My parents raised me to take the full measure of a man before I decide on their character.
For example, I agree with the protestors cause of racial injustice.
John Lewis , MLK and Gandhi used non violent protest to get change and it worked.
Those men are worthy of our respect.
BUT, I don't respect anyone who loots stores or burns police stations and takes over city blocks ( *CHAZ in Seattle ) .
I actually agreed with the Iraq war protestors, but they lost me when some laid in the road during rush hr in ATL.
I never voted for W. Bush president #43, but I respected him for how he lived his life.
I was against the Iraq war, but confess to being moved , when he put his arms around the fireman and declared;
" And the people who knocked these buildings down will hear from all of us , real soon."
I didn't agree with most of W Bush's policies, BUT I always felt he was a decent man.
Now, the crazies into Q-anon are another story.
I can't respect anyone crazy or ignorant enough to buy into that bullshit.

Political differences on issues like taxes, health care , etc are one thing.
