Conspiracy Theory Simulation
« on: February 07, 2021, 09:38:03 AM »
When it comes to CT's, its not whether I believe or dont believe, but rather I just dont care. They dont affect my life

However, if there was one I would lean to believing, its that the world we live in is a Simulation. Sometimes some of this shit just seems so surreal that it has to be a simulation.

These days the term is applied to anybody who doesn’t buy into the media’s and politicians bullshit narrative about everything hook line and sinker. In other words, if you’re not a complete fucking gullible  mark you’re a conspiracy theorist.

If someone in December 2019 detailed how, in 2020, there would be a pandemic, that everyone would be would be wearing face masks, gyms would be closed, some people would be fined and/or arrested for opening up their businesses, etc... they would be labeled a conspiracy theorist.

Conspiracy theorists used to say that household appliances would have cameras and microphones but:

Conspiracy theorists used to say the government would be able to track people with a chip. Who needs a chip when they can track you right now with your cell phone...

I think it would depend on the details given by the person.

If the person just claimed there would be a pandemic in a specific time frame and name all the subsequent events then Speculator is a better fitting term. Because he would be predicting an event that has happened before and with well known consequences. There's no conspiracy going on here.

If the person claimed the government would be behind the pandemic, then I think he could be considered a Conspiracy Theorist.

Of course assuming that no evidence is presented, only conjectures.

Some are far fetched.   KFC was invented to cause black men to be infertile.  Fake moon landing.  JFK/Elvis/Michael Jackson faked their deaths.  The skeletons in Peru are really aliens.  Etc...

However when I was getting my masters, one girl in my class was really into this belief that lotteries were rigged and fake.   She was absolutely convinced the govt picked the winners prior.  She would say :

- the lottery numbers were drawn long in advance
- that when you see the machine with the balls floating around and being picked, it was video taped prior
- everyone believed it was happening live but if that were the case why didn’t they do it with an audience?
- why didn’t they hold up a newspaper from that day to prove it was live and the numbers drawn that day?
- the reason it always seemed to be old people winning is because the govt knew they would die soon and the money would come back.
- the people involved - govt, winners, lottery host, camera man, etc..  were all paid to keep quiet

I mean nothing anyone said would convince her otherwise.

If the person just claimed there would be a pandemic in a specific time frame and name all the subsequent events then Speculator is a better fitting term. Because he would be predicting an event we know has happened before, but has an low probability of happening. There's no conspiracy going on here.

If the person claimed the government would be behind the pandemic, then I think he can be considered a Conspiracy Theorist.

People use the label 'conspiracy theorist' all the time without consulting formal definitions.

For example: "Oh sure, right, there's going to be some big pandemic in 2020 but only you know about it, right? So the government is keeping this from us? Wouldn't they know if something like that is about to happen. Do you think they're keeping it from us? How can the government tell you to close your gym? So, you think you're going to have all these government people somehow subverting the constitution? Let me get this straight, you're saying that the government is going to criminalize lawful businesses? So, a bunch of people at state Dept. of Health are going to get together and just say "shut down your gym or we're going to impose severe criminal or civil penalties"? Like the US is going to all of a sudden turn into the USSR? A cop will drag you to jail? You're a nut. Go back to your mother's basement with your tinfoil hat conspiracy theorist bullsh1t."

It's become a term used to discredit people and discourage analysis. It's like labeling someone a racist. Fact checkers aren't on hand all the time to remind people to adhere to the strict definition of racist. The term is useful and people will use it to discredit or villainize as they see fit.

People are dumb enough to believe the Earth is flat due to YouTube videos. There has never been more CT’s as there are today.

What if they said a vaccine would be developed but it's approval held up by bureaucrats until a week after the election?

I never understood how they explained how planes and ships can travel all the way around the planet without falling off if it is flat.

Shit, what they are doing right now is nothing.  Wait until everything is 5G here. We will be just like China soon.  Actually, they will own us by the end of this administration.  I hope the people that voted based on Trump's tweets vs. policies are happy in the next few years when they no longer have a job, and are living off of UBI.

They say planes never get near the edge because Antarctica goes around the whole edge of the Earth.  Look at a flat map of Earth and imagine the outer rim being ice.  All of the continents are on the inside.  If Wiggs were here he could explain it better.

I wonder how many poor penguins are floating in space after walking off the edge?

That's why penguins can't fly.  There's no need to when you can float. ;D

Yeah this is a very good new definition of the term... Sorta like how "fact checker" real meaning has nothing to do with the literal interpretation.
