Sad to hear about the bird  :'( at least you tried.  The heat is severe but like you say, having it come this early is especially devastating.

Canada's hottest days on record:

- Today: 49.4°C (120.9°F)
- Yesterday: 47.5°C (117.5°F)
- Sunday: 46.1°C (115°F)
- 1937: 45°C (113°F)

The good news is that the heatwave was short-lived. It is currently 73°F and cloudy. The predicted high for today is 80°F which is fairly normal for this time of year.

The bad news is the scorched plants will just have to look crappy for awhile. It is advised to not remove the heat damaged branches and leaves until their is no threat of another hot spell....that means sometime in the fall. The reason to leave them is that they provide protection from the sun on any newly emerging foliage.
