some hoax
Nothing to see here. The media is just blowing it all out of proportion. It rained, some puddles formed, and the lights flickered for a bit. No big deal.
Lower Manhattan abuts the upper bay of NY Harbor, just kissing the Atlantic. Highest natural point is at 265’ at around 185th St (it ends at about 220th St). All areas abutting the NY Harbor are at risk of submersion. The Atlantic storm of 1821 had a surge so great that both the Hudson and East Rivers were connected as far north as Canal St. (about a mile north of the southern end of Manhattan). 2012’s storm Sandy wasn’t as powerful, but its surge was higher because of the high tide. Climate change has been pounding the area since at least 1821.
Makes sense. I think these events are referred to as a 100 year flood.
