So you are not a bodybuilder. That is understandable since you have a surfing and skateboard background. I haven't met a surfer who lifts weights. They prefer to be out in the surf.
It's very simple 'formula':
- Olympics sports or never to be Olympic 1 !.
- Surfboard & be lucky to live in Aussie,Hawaii,California,Tahiti & similar or mega costly gyms .......
- 15yo can be Olympic/World skates/surfing champion !.
- Mega sponsorship , 13 yo British girl was compeating in Tokyo 2020
- 18yo Aussie Keegan is the 1st Skateboarding Olympic champion
- 6X Ironman, Trevor Handy hardly used gyms to build muscles
Free outdoor gyms vs comercial gyms (staff that joining fee ?)
- Dips or triceps machines
- Dips/push ups or benching
- Pull ups or backs machinery
- Pistols with/without KB or squads/machines ( do it @ home)
+ boarders get all the best girls

- NABBA Mr.Universe , now have a Bermuda (read surfers) class
