You're right, Dave is a smart man and definitely NOT a moron.
He dropped out of a med school midway by his choice and got a BS (with honors) in biochemistry.

At the 2008 Arnold expo, I  asked Dave's buddy, John Romano, if Palumbo ever had regrets for not getting his MD.
JR gave me a rambling, reply about how he and Dave were doing more without the constraints of
"established credentials".

Ok, that's fine.
BUT you need to be a real doc to operate and prescribe meds.
You need to be real lawyer to represent others in court, etc

In 2000, I  asked , if he was trying to change his look , so he could win and go pro.
Dave smiled, looked me in the eye and said ; " I'd rather not go pro IF I have to sacrifice muscle or look less freaky ."
he claimed , he  was doing better "as is" and didn't really need a pro card.

Dave Palumbo was/is a straight shooter and lives life on his terms.

BUT his refusal to comply with basic, established requirements, came with a  cost.
As an " outsider" you limit what you can do for people in normal, daily life.

Many love the renegade spirit but sometimes , it's just not practical.
Most of us want our car fixed by a certified mechanic .
LOL, unless you're at home, you need to be a licensed beautician  to cut hair  .

“Doing more without constraints”  ::)

Basically a drug dealer

It's public info that  Palumbo was convicted for dealing fake hGH a few years ago.

He did his time and I don't want to insult or needlessly disparage the man for this.

However,  avoiding the legitimate path can lead to illegal and/or underground dealings.
I've had some mixed feelings when it comes to Palumbo.

He was given a keen intellect and the physical potential to be a pro. I hate to see wasted talent.
BUT...
In my final assessment, he wasted these talents in pursuit of "short cuts".
