So, I’m aware this was a show but never watched it. I’m now in my hotel and it’s on, and I watched an episode, and I can’t believe this was on, and less than 20 years after World War Two. Crazy that someone thought to make a comedy out of this. Was the holocaust not a thing yet that had been “uncovered”?

Wrong, Hogan's Heroes is bodybuilding realted as I watched it twice a day every day when training for my first show (which is did not win).  For some reason it worked out with my training schedule.

No. People were just more sensible then
 People understood what a joke was and , in fact, understood that a way of coping with shit was humor.

Political Corectness (the grandfather of woke ideology) ended humor. And now everybody takes everything too seriously.  So no more jokes.

Somehow western society has determined that one of the most important things is the "feelings" of societies most sensitive people. And 'offending ' someone is the gravest of sins.

Most of the main production staff and the lead actors were Jewish. The Nuremberg trials happened. Franz Stangl, Adolf Eichmann, and a bunch of other Nazis were caught, or being chased around the globe. It was a different time, people worried about actual things, not SJW goofiness.

The film "Stalag 17" was the inspiration/model for "Hogan's Heroe's".  Bob Crane ("Hogan") was apparently a total pervert and died a horrible death, being bludgeoned to death in an apartment in Arizona.

If you watch the first season, Werner played the Klink Character with a lot more "Miltary Bearing" than later seasons.
