I guess maybe you've forgotten the Cold War
Russia is our adversary likely even our enemy (by "our" I'm referring to the United States and NATO).
Ukraine is our ally.
Russia has no legitimate claim to attack Ukraine
In fact Russia is violating an agreement that they (and the US) signed with Ukraine in 1994 at the time that Ukraine gave up their nukes: ttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budapest_Memorandum_on_Security_Assurances
And the fact is that Russia's so called war is nothing more than an ongoing terrorist attack on mostly civilians and civilian targets.

Can you see how Russia would view the US as being hypocritical? Esp. after they blocked the 2015 Russia/Ukraine Minsk II agreement that could have prevented this war in Ukraine..Plus ignored the plight of the Ukrainian/Russian speaking people being persecuted for 8 years in the Donbas by their own government.
There is more history to this than just a random "Unprovoked terrorist attack" the media is spinning...
There has been a long proxy war between the US and RUSSIA (many parallels with the build up to the Vietnam war) except the roles are reversed as far as troops going in...
* Vietnam was a French colony, there was an independence war led by Ho Chi Minh (allied with Soviets and Chinese) which he won. There was a peace agreement dividing Vietnam into North and South, North under the Soviets, South Under France. Then there was an election. It was expected Ho Chi Minh would win. The USA and other western powers would not accept this.
Speaking of " ignoring Agreements" The US ignored the Geneva agreement then just like the Minsk agreement was ignored by them in Ukraine. Both of these agreements could have prevented these two wars.
The US set up a government in Vietnam (Zehme was installed) Zehme like the western puppet Zelensky became corrupt. The parallels are there. Both these US backed government took action to brutally crush their opposition in their own country (Ho Chi Minh supporters in the South Of Vietnam) and Zelensky regime has been working hard for 8 years to extinguish pro-Russian sentiment in the east, persecuting them, banning their language etc.
Eventually it became difficult to cope with this pressure so both appealed for help. (pro Russian in the Donbas appealed for help to Russia) like the South in Vietnam appealed for help to Ho Chi Minh in the North.
What we see is the same response from the West in both cases.
* Weapon system sent in vast numbers to Vietnam/Ukraine
* The advisers being sent to both countries
* When this doesn't work - increasing calls for intervention from the media, escalation, calls for action.
Realize the Hawks then and Neocons now DO NOT want peace...they actively mobilize to block negotiation.
Let’s hope sense prevails and there won’t be the same dynamic in Ukraine as there was in Vietnam (i.e. sending 500 000 troops) doesn't happen. The stakes this time are WAY bigger.
