Johnny Fuller - 10 x 32
« on: May 13, 2022, 01:57:40 AM »
Whacky looking routine and eating habits. But no peach-cobbler.

Remember seeing this guy in the Mags as a kid and his density for the times, blew me away.
Read he used to drink blood from the slaughter-houses  :o ::)

I remember Johnny very well.

I remember in his comeback show at the 1985 Mr. Olympia, the announcer reported it was "Johnny Fuller's comeback", but it sounded like he said "Johnny Fuller Scumbag".

I'm not sure why that was a "comeback" though, given he competed at the Olympia in 1983. Perhaps because he was deeper into his forties into his return, which made his 1985 showing more impressive, in an era that had fewer older guys competing?

I remember when he passed away in January of 2006, and I remember how sad it was that he only has a two page RIP thread on here:

http://www.getbig.com/boards/index.php?topic=53008.0

I thought it was Shawn Ray who said this, but it was a reply to Shawn:

the sunset was magnificent tonight.

johnny fuller was certainly that shawn.
par excellence !

RIP

Does anyone know what that expression means?

Interesting to see that classic Getbigger sarcasm felt the same way about Johnny as you do, Gym-Rat.

Here's a nice article on Johnny Fuller from Peter McGough:

No problem, Gym-Rat. I'm glad you remember Johnny Fuller, and I hope this thread grows longer than his two page RIP thread. Johnny deserves that.

I found it interesting that you, sarcasm, myself, and ANAL DISCHARGE all felt the same say about Johnny's unorthodox training:

holy shit RIP, i remember reading about Johnny when i first started training and his workouts and how he used to do 75 sets per bodypart with heavy weights and minimal rest between sets.

Speaking of ANAL DISCHARGE, I wonder what he's been up to lately - he hasn't posted since last year when we he was 91, and he was Getbig's oldest member.

Lmao! Great Johnny Fuller tidbit, Tim. Yep - and he ate raw onions too. I wonder if there was any validity to these methods. No doubt his training protocol worked for him - I'd just like to know if there is some benefit to giving a try to his 76-set workout [or whatever it was  :D].

To be honest, I think I'd be dead tired by the 20-set mark, and just end up getting a bunch of junk volume in there. Could be neat to try if I wanted to spend half the day doing it.  :D

All of his quirks could just be full on bullshit....he probably did three sets of eight reps on everything.  LOL  ;D

I used to believe he did this and maybe he did but he must have been on a huge amount of gear to recover from this BS and how long could a person keep up his enthusiasm to train like this?

He`s full of shit.  :D

He may have been on the Serge Nubret protocol.
Amphetamines 24 x 7, train all day, etc..

I always thought Fuller had an awesome build. It was really unique for the time. Super dense, compact. Guy was always in awesome condition full and ripped.  Looked like he was carved out of granite.

Matt, I think he took time off to get his pec tear repaired. He had a gruesome pec tear in 82 or 83. I think he "cameback" after he got it fixed. Thanks for the article link too.

That 10×32 probably is some bullshit. I read in several books that Roy Callender would train for 8 hrs a day. I just listened to an interview with him and he was asked about it. He said that was bullshit he never trained 8 hrs a day.

I also heard recently an interview (I think it was with Boyer Coe) and he mentioned a trainer having him drink blood from a cow. He said he did it once or twice but almost made him throw up.  Apparently this was some old-school thinking?

This is his boxing record:

how did he guage his weights to always hit 32 reps?

Must have left something in the tank after every set to keep hitting 32
