Court appearances typically take place in a courtroom without cameras in New York state. In this case, will acting New York Supreme Court Judge Juan Merchan allow cameras? Secondly, do you think Judge Merchan should or should not allow the procedure to be recorded on film?

Trump’s arraignment is likely to be a spectacle with a show of law enforcement and with the former president already fanning the flames on social media with his views on Merchan and his indictment. Trump famously puts his own spin on pretty much everything he does or that is done to and for him.

Personally, I think the judge should allow or insist on Trump's proceedings next Tuesday to be recorded. No matter what someone's position on Trump's indictment as subsequent arraignment is, it is a historic event which the public should be able to witness. I prefer to hear the charges against Trump when they are presented, not via the left or right leaning media who will put their own spin on them. Or from Trump who we all know will spin this his way.

He has spent his entire adult life lying to the public.  People with dementia typically become unfiltered authentic versions of who they really are.  So in that sense, I think he knows he is lying.

Some folks believe that lie detector tests have no scientific basis at all: it's a complete fraud used to scare admissions/confessions out of naïve and gullible persons. Neither Biden nor Trump are naïve or gullible. A stutter may or may not throw off the results of a CVSA.

Things to consider:

Trump is a better liar than Biden. Trump is mentally ill.
Biden stutters which could be a problem because it disrupts his speech pattern. 

My conclusion is that it would be a tossup who fared best.

Trump and Biden are not in the same universe when it comes to lying.  What I have a problem with is people (the media, you liberals/progressives, etc.) completely ignoring Biden's fifty years of lying to the public, as a public servant.

I like being obtuse as in insensitive and thickheaded. It keeps people from taking advantage of me and in my old age (nearly 79 years now) you never know when I might develop dementia which would make me vulnerable to all kinds of bad stuff. 

You are welcome to say that dementia is a mental illness if your like. It is technically considered a mental disorder. Disorder and illness might seem like the same thing but there are notable differences. A mental disorder shares the same qualities as a mental illness but is used in reference to the Mental Health Act to describe the symptoms a person has. A mental disorder poses a serious danger to the person's own, or others’ health and safety, or seriously diminishes the capacity of that person to care for themselves. I think most of us know people who are nuts but have no problem taking care of themselves.

Sorry about your dad, this must be hard for you. Nobody likes witnessing their parents become helpless and needy. When my mom was dying from emphysema, she developed dementia due to oxygen deprivation. When she was young and healthy, she was sort of nuts and she was formidable. Did you know that mental disorders early in life increase the risk for dementia and for developing dementia at a younger age? My point is it is possible to be both mentally ill and have dementia.

Dementia is an umbrella term used to describe a range of neurological conditions affecting the brain that worsen over time. It is the loss of the ability to think, remember, and reason to levels that affect daily life and activities. Mentally ill people can, and some do get better over time. Dementia is progressive. Folks don't get over it. It doesn't go away; it just keeps getting worse.

My sister-in-law developed Lewy Body dementia when she was in her 70's. She went from being sharp as a tack and physically very active to needing a walker and later a wheelchair. She eventually began hallucinating. Protein deposits, called Lewy bodies, develop in nerve cells in the brain regions involved in thinking, memory, and movement (motor control). So, as you can see, LBD has a physical cause but can seem like a mental illness. The difference between the two is a fine line which is nuanced.

I believe we were talking about mental illness (nuts) verses mental disorders (dementia). Loss of cognitive function is a disorder. Joe could very well be losing cognitive abilities, but it does not mean he is nuts. He could also have narcissistic personality disorder, but compared to Trump it is clearly underdeveloped... which is a good thing.

Donald Trump has been arrested, as New York law enforcement continues its extended investigation into the former president’s involvement in a “hush money” scheme with adult film actress Stormy Daniels. Although he will not be handcuffed, take a mug shot or be given a perp walk, he was effectively arrested when he surrendered to the court.

The April 4 arraignment is about to take place in a Lower Manhattan courtroom. Trump was spotted leaving Trump Tower in Manhattan around 1:10 pm EST and then drove downtown in a large motorcade. On the walk from Trump Tower to his vehicle, Trump held his fist up and also waved. He also addressed the crowd in the same way when walking from the vehicle to the courthouse.

On March 18, Trump publicly declared that he believed his arrest to be imminent. The arrest comes as Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg continues to look into Trump’s involvement in paying adult film star Stormy Daniels a sum of $130,000 to stay silent and remain private about their alleged 2006 affair.
