Apple just introduced their new augmented reality headset.  It looks promising and I'm interested in seeing where this is going.

Zuckerberg addressed Apple’s headset unveiling in a meeting with Meta employees, telling them that it ‘could be the vision of the future of computing, but like, it’s not the one that I want.’

My opinion is both companies are right and will find different customers and uses.

It'll fail because it's a failure to understand what VR is.

VR is more like a sensory deprivation tank than anything else. You're basically blindfolded and deaf with the headset on. The whole reason it works is it's an immersive reality, your brain in forced to fill in the gaps, when devoid of actual reality. Anything blended like this will fail because it fails to understand how VR works.

It's not trying to be immersive VR

It's more an upgraded version of google glasses. Most likely it ends up being a device used in industry. Like by a designer, architect, electrical engineer etc. The $3.5k plus price point doesn't matter so much then.
