apart from less lower back & maybe more weight what is the advantages to this lift?

Shorter ROM, greater carryover to wide stance squat, more support from squat suits and the like.

Personally, I think it’s cheating but interestingly seems like all the top deadlifters pull conventional anyways.

I have tried it but am not 100% sure how it would be of use to a bodybuilder or anyone training for a sport.

the advantage is for mid/low level powerlifters to add to their total. that's why you see guys with a 600lb dead and a 225lb bench, there's 0 carryover
