Venice Beach looking a bit tidier nowadays..?
« on: August 05, 2023, 06:13:23 PM »
I'm watching a random YouTube live webcam that apparently is on the corner of the Venice/V hotel opposite Charlie's Deli

I can't see any of those shanty town tented hellholes around that were there last time that German in Venice guys posted - did they have a clean up or something..?

They've been working on a lot of it this year.

This channel documents some of the cleanup. It's called Santa Monica Closeup but it also covers seedier Venice since they're side by side.

It started getting cleaned up when Villanueva took the responsibility away from the LAPD . When I was there last year it looked great. Like the old Venice Beach

Reminds me of the Wall street protests in New York city. A massive amount of tents sprung up then the homeless thought it was a great place to live. So many complaints from the rich people that lived in the area. I think it was the mayor Bloomberg that gave the order to say camping out on city streets is illegal to the NYC cops. The sanitation department came with front end loaders and a dump truck. They scooped up all the tents and garbage then dumped into a dump truck. The homeless were told where the dump was if they wanted to get their possessions. If any new tents sprung up they were removed too. Guess what? The homeless disappeared too.

Bloomberg was a moderate sane liberal and NY now has nothing but radical liberals running the city. It's a hell hole now. San Francisco should bull doze their filth away too instead of giving them $800 a month in cash and free cell phones. Glad to see Venice is removing the trash too. Being homeless is a life style for 90% of them. They weren't here in these numbers 20-30 years ago.

Yeah it looked sweet, and it was a nice HD feed with sound, so it felt like I was there on a really sunny day (while in reality it was nothing like that out of my window  ;D)

Would be great to actually make it there one day

One city I lived in cleared the hookers off a particular street so they just moved two streets farther back.

All photo-op.

Hey. That’s actually not true. It happened shortly after Bass took office. I’m not sure if it was related to her and definitely don’t want to give her credit, but that’s when it started. And it was LAPD there every day with the street cleaners cleaning sidewalks until the homeless got tired of moving their shit back.

Right, those people didn’t get homes all of a sudden.  The problem was just moved out of sight, not actually resolved

I remember there being clean up under the Sheriff Villanueva, maybe there was more under the Mayor (Bass), but the Sheriff was the first one to start cleaning up stuff post-Covid.  But I don't live there so I'll defer to those who do.
