Her father Karsten Johansson came from Denmark, and his grandfather came from Sweden

It is a sound practice as thousands of years ago there was no DNA testing.  As such your mother had to be Jewish for you to be accepted as a Hebrew.  Why?  Because you could always be sure of who the mother was.  ;D
