The streets are good but it's performance on the cobbles (Darren Avey style) that is most important.

Didn't watch but calisthenics bros have the best idea when it comes to lifting.

Moderate weight, high frequency, high volume >

Doing exclusively bodyweight is silly though. As there's machines which give a better squeeze and you risk aggravating your joints doing the same compound movements daily.

Using body weight stuff is truly athletic training. Sitting in machines is not athletic. I saw this in a city one time. A broken down play ground and guys who were in incredible shape working out. Think they poor blacks are using steroids doing push ups in a park? No, they are putting in the work.

Well they are unemployed, probably broke and have nothing to do but hang on monkey bars while waiting to score some drugs. The rest of us work for a living and prefer the scientific and time efficient method of lifting weights - where we can also hit the squat rack, unlike these flying Wallendas.

With our workouts done in 15 minutes  via HIT , we have lots of time left  to go get our massages from our concubines while looking at our stock portfolios.

Good stuff.

But if you want to be monstrously strong and powerful, you need to work against resistance not your own. Or that is forcibly trying to put you down.

But for general fitness, strength and “athleticism”, calisthenics is incredible, no doubt.

1 x 15 minute workout every 2 weeks give plenty of time to source the best amphetamines and study Ayn Rand

Nothing more scientific than body weight exercises. Sprints, jumps, lunges, squats and single leg squats got the legs covered. 15 minute HIT workouts?  Bet you a buff from that.

I did Callisthenics focused training for a couple of years after over a decade of gym bro style lifting.

Kept 90% of my size, but shrinkage in the arms was very noticeable. Surprised though how effectively you can train legs doing all that girly isolation stuff (NH)

Kinda regret though as it's been a huge pain switching back to weights. Weights mixed with some kinda yoga/mobility program seems to best combo.

I guess I was too subtle with the HIT reference, lol. It was a joke...dear god. You'd think the concubine reference would have clued people in.

I wish it were true about bodyweight workouts but you won't get very big unless you add resistance. Everybody marvels at cycling track sprinters and 500M speedskaters - and think that is all they do to get big, lol. I know both types personally and they hit the squat rack religiously. Same with gymnasts- biggest myth going is all they do is hang on rings to get massive biceps. Hardly.

You can get lean with some muscle from bodyweight exercises but to be a Getbig level god - no effing way.

If your joints, tendons and ligaments are already somewhat beat up as is the case for most older guys then switching to callisthenics will only make it worse. Weights are still your best bet here.

That was my experience.  In my early 40's I started doing calisthenics.  Running,  dips. Pull ups. Push ups. Jumping rope. After a 4 or 5 months developed  brutal plantar fasciatis and tendinitis in my elbows.

I guess if you've been doing it for most of your workouts from the beginning you have less chance of having tendon issues but starting in your 40's did not work for me.

A 'bodybuilding' workout, with moderate weight. A few exercises per body part, 4 sets of 10 with the last set close to failure, will have you looking good and feeling good.

Most trainers jump into bodyweight exercises to fast and try to do way too much volume because they become obsessed with numbers. All the techniques used in weight training can be done with bodyweight exercises as well. Doing the sets at different angles and changing the speed of the reps increase the intensity of the set. There are an endless number of exercises, angles, speed, supersets, etc, that can be used. There is no reason a person should have injuries from bodyweight exercises if the workouts are properly structured.
