In the last 48 hours I have read that Joe was murdered, Joe had mental health issues (depression), Joe had a heart attack related to steroid history, and Joe committed suicide.  Apparently, his abandoned truck contained $150 in cash, a laptop, a gun holster--but no gun.  None of this from official sources.  It seems many are determined to offer a definitive cause of death and even dueling about it on social media.  :'(

All hypothesis until law enforcement or family weighs in with something. But is a holster without gun common or uncommon? If you are hunting, for example, do you take gun and leave holster? I am not a gun owner.

Sounds like suicide to me since it seems hush hush.

His son and daughter posted long tributes to him on Facebook. They don't reference foul play or anything similar, they just have the somber tone that comes with death, especially the unexpected kind. I will say the man was loved in his area, lots of condolences, and not the cheap kind, but heartfelt ones.

someone on facebook says he was the first person to total 2100 on the powerlifts.

Jon Cook did 2105 in 1971 when joe was 8 so pretty impressive if he did it before Jon.
