I always failed to see why Zane didn’t win 1980.

He was maybe 10% below his best, but Arnold was 30% or more below his best.

Zane looked amazing. Maybe the most ripped he ever was. The problem was he was down in weight. Never under stood how the lawn chair collapsed while tanning and sliced his dick cutting his urethra. That had to hurt.  Imagine being rushed to the emergency room with your dick gushing blood?

He said he weighed 183 for the 1980 contest. Down in weight from his 190 something Olympia wins. Still think he looked fantastic. I know there is a lot of hate for Dickerson because of his gayness but he deserved his second place. Maybe should have been first. Again Mentzer didn't come in first, second or third. He came in fifth. Yes, Boyer Coe looked better.

I´ve heard of bodybuilders drinking whisky before a show but cocaine ? I did read that story too about arnold. Probably why Bill pearl was reported as saying arnold was very aggressive on stage, basically doing what he wanted.
would make sense as arnold was underweight ( i believe) & not so confident as usual.

I really admire his longevity in the sport. Amazing he was at his best in his forties. In the late 70's and early 80's he looked like he was craved from granite.

According to the John Hansen/Roger Walker interview, the 1980 Olympia was not a “competition”, it was a “show”.

As Roger Walker stated: 8 weeks out from the 1980 Mr Olympia... why would Arnold, who was 5 years into retirement, suddenly decide to compete?

Answer: because he was “more than friends” with the promoter.... who had told Arnold that he would be given 1st place.

The promoter Paul Graham. Who had previously gone to jail to save Arnold and the then to be Weiders golden child back in California is so it's told. Paul ended up with IFBB in Australia for life basically lining his own pockets and never advancing the sport or the athletes, even after guys like Doherty who had a true love of the sport appeared, anyone who ever made it in bodybuilding down under did it themselves with no help or guidance, they never introduced a pathway to pro, Doherty did that or they did after he was going too. It was simply a cashcow for life run a show there and pay them or partner with them.

Yeah, damaged urethra from an accident at the pool. Same area of the body regardless. A very frightening injury I'm sure. Hopefully, Christina didn't have to go without sex for long.
