His best (and only) placing in the AAU Mr. America was second in 1958 to Tom Sansone.

My scanning skills are lacking. Yes, I do have an article. Maybe I will give it a shot soon.

Franco's legs were so short he couldn't stabilize himself to bench on most benches. Sick strong.

Chuck Sipes trained in his garage with very little equipment. For calves he used bricks. The 1959 IFBB Mr. America winner had an amazing physique with impressive abs. Crazy strong. He benched 570lbs weighing a little over 200lbs with a tee shirt. He didn't specialize in powerlifting, it was just part of his bodybuilding training. He played the banjo, painted ( I have one of his prints), and hunted with black powder rifles that was a rare thing to do back then. Too bad he killed himself. I don't know the circumstances and I hesitate to type this but I believe he had an affair and when his wife wouldn't forgive him he shot himself.  Again I could be wrong. I know the guy that was gifted the banjo from the Sipes family. He is an avid player.

I have to laugh at the picture of Mr heavy duty, the exercise genius Meth Mike. Look at that form on the pullover. All crunched over pulling with everything EXCEPT the lats!  lmao. Thats why he had no back!  ( or chest or shoulders or arms legs or a MIND! ) Proper form is chest held up and pull with the elbows. But hey Mike knew what he was doing.  smh.
