I believe most people are not at the extreme right or left. The majority are relatively neutral and openminded. They are mainstream by literal definition; Widely accepted and/or normalized.

Even though it may not be true exactly that most people are in between (in my own case, I am surrounded by a lot of friends and family that are either far Left or far Right), the perhaps fewer Middle People make the difference in elections. That was what spelled difficulty for extreme Republican candidates two months ago.
