‘Buck Rogers’ star Gil Gerard dead at 82
Hollywood star died Tuesday in hospice care after battling aggressive form of cancer

Gil Gerard, best known for starring in "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century," has died. He was 82.

Gerard's manager, Tina Presley Borek, confirmed the Hollywood actor's death to Fox News Digital.

He died Tuesday in hospice care as a result of a rare, aggressive form of cancer, according to The Associated Press.

Following his death, Gerard’s wife, Janet, shared a message he left behind for fans on Facebook, offering a final reflection on his life and outlook.

"Don’t waste your time on anything that doesn’t thrill you or bring you love. See you out somewhere in the cosmos," the note said.

In another message written before his death, Gerard reflected on his life and career.

"My life has been an amazing journey," he wrote. "The opportunities I’ve had, the people I’ve met and the love I have given and received have made my 82 years on the planet deeply satisfying."

His death marks the passing of one of late 1970s television’s most recognizable sci-fi leads.

I suspect most of you are too young to remember him in what was a hit show at the time.  The scripts were weak and production values were limited by puny budgets, but they did they best they could. For sci-fi fans it was the best thing to come along since the short lived Star Trek series.  His character was often featured in form fitting clothes, but I was disappointed to see that he didn't have a gym physique (BB related); even as a kid I looked for that.  I was surprised to read that his net worth at the time of death was only $1 million.  Even his costar Erin Grey (the female lead on the show) has done much better according to celebrity net worth.

May he rest in peace.

I’m not old enough to remember this, but he looks like the guy on a Buck Rogers pinball machine I played a lot as a kid.

I've seen some of the old tv episodes.  Probably the best ones were of the space vampire and the man/cyborg that just wouldn't stop.  I think it feel into something that resembled a saarlacc from Star Wars but was a bunch of tentacles under the sand and even escaped.

I cannot believe I remember this, but the space vampire was called a "vorbon" or "vorvon."  Memory is such a weird thing.

AI says: "Vorbon vampire" likely refers to Vorvon, the space vampire from the classic sci-fi series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, known for controlling minds in the 1980 episode "The Space Vampire,"

Liked the show as a kid,  I'm sure it'd be terrible to watch now,  some shows just don't age well. Thought land of the giants looked good for its time with the miniatures and large props.

Glen Larson was the producer of Buck Rogers and Battle Star Galactica.  He also produced Magnum PI, Knight Rider, Quicy, and the Fall Guy.  You don't see that kind of creativity on TV anymore.

The pilot episode of both Buck Rogers and Battle Star Galactica was shown in the Movie theater and both series only lasted two years.  Buck Rogers was completely changed from the first season to the second season.  They even wanted to remove Erin Gray, but Gil said he would walk if they did that.  Erin's outfits changed from pants on the first season to dresses on the second season.

Season one OWNED Season two.

Season one was tongue-in-cheek but two tried to be more serious and utterly failed. (Gil hated the new direction of Season 2 and it shows, no more funky disco with Princess Ardala, now it was just an exploration series on a ship (like Star Trek)).

I used to jerk off to Erin Gray before watching Silver Spoons.
