Standing Behind-The-Neck (BTN) Presses - Ted Arcidi
« on: March 20, 2025, 11:00:45 AM »
This is the first time I've ever seen anyone do standing BTNs (at least with any legitimate weight).

I've seen Ted Arcidi mainly in old IronMan articles after he retired. I didn't know he was that darn BIG in his prime!!

As I said, I've heard of Arcidi years ago....decades actually. I knew about his bench press prowess and read articles about him back in the 90s in IronMan (probably have some in my garage stored away). I just never seen him (or anyone) doing standing BTNs.

Every guy I've ever seen push up major weight on BTNs do them seated. And some of them use Smith machines.

Arcidi was in our gym years ago and did Skullcrushers with ease with 3 plates a side for lots of reps.

I`ve told this story numerous times on here that he gave a kid a $100.00 tip for walking a block and bringing him back a sub from Subway.

WOW!! The only guy I've seen do that (on video, at least) is that Craig Munson guy, that CT Fletcher mentioned.

Impressive.  But he has really wonky left elbow mechanics when he presses.

Also in that video with Paul Bearer Ted has an impressive 18.5 inch neck there.  Some more bridges and he could've almost caught up to Hankins.

Google says 650 bench raw. One hell of a bench but now the raw record is close to 800 if I'm not mistaken. And the "equipped" is like 1300 lmao and their raw bench is not even half :D

650 is huge, but his OHP is even more impressive than his bench IMO.

Does anybody these days do reps with 375 pounds?!

I doubt the 800 raw was done as strictly as Ted's 650.

I don't know, depends if it's a comp lift and a bit on the specific rules, I think there are lots of 300kg/660lbs of gym lifts. Even some shot putters bouncing it.

Not sure if serious. There is a claim that steroids will "only" add 10% compared to if the same guy had absolutely maxed his powerlifts naturally over a long period. Poliquin said it, among others. I saw a friend add just about that to the three powerlifts in 2 years of juicing after having lifted for 2 decades+ natural and having been an elite natural competitive powerlifter, so it's not always that dramatic a difference. But yeah, steroids help a bit for sure 8)
