It's common sense to deploy the national guard when crime was reducing? what about the states with more crime? How much money does it cost to do this? I will give you a guess, it's a lot. It's not scalable, not proven to do anything long term and would be a violation of the 10th amendment if he forces it on other places. Trump is clearly wanting to be "rule with an iron fist" like his buddies in china and russia as he so often states.
He won't be ridding it of crime, you cannot rid somewhere of crime unless you paradoxically commit crime. There is zero common sense in this.

In theory if the situation was simply criminals stop when punished we would have seen that already. Crime is a function of poverty, living conditions, SES etc.. sure there are some unsavory individuals with personality disorders. For example, you are a criminal. You have taken and purchased illegal drugs (without a prescription) to enhance your body and have likely advised others to do the same, or is that not a crime?
