In a stunning admission that undercut weeks of Democratic spin, Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) dropped a political grenade at a NewsNation town hall at the Kennedy Center this week — squarely blaming his own party for the federal government shutdown.
Fetterman didn’t mince words.
“That’s why shutting the government is really what the Democratic Party wants to do,” he told moderator Chris Cuomo to audible audience applause. “I follow country, then party. And it’s the wrong thing for the country.” He made clear he would not support using a shutdown as leverage in negotiations.
Fetterman, one of the Senate’s most outspoken members, openly criticized Democrats for structuring the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) subsidies to expire at the end of 2025.
“This was designed by the Democratic Party to expire at the end of the year,” he said. “This is not something taken by the Republicans.” Translation: the expiration wasn’t some conservative plot — it was baked into the policy by Democrats themselves.
So, if liberals themselves are saying it, how does that constitute a "bizarro" world. A bizzaro world would imply NOBODY thinks it's the Democrats. So, instead of just hurling your hyperbolic opinion as fact, why not back it up with something tangible?
As for the Biden thing you keep harping on, even though it was not part of the original point, plenty of folks said after the 2020 election that it was a referendum against Trump. But 90% of the counties didn't shift blue, he didn't win every swing state, and his EC margin was smaller than 2024.
And Biden reversed many of Trump's policies out of spite, the most egregious being the reversal of the Stay in Mexico policy, which ultimately led to record border crossings, and causing the Trumpian landslide in 2024.
Also, Trump just negotiated Middle East peace. How is that a fail? And, as I've said before, if a leader aligns his ego with the goals of the country, who gives a fuck? It's the results that count.
