Look, the NPC is an amatuer federation. You cannot get money for placing in it, nor prizes equivallent to money. Once any athlete as participated in an event that he/she gets money for, then they are not an amatuer anymore, thus cannot compete in the NPC.

Until they compete in a PDI pro contest, there is no violation. Once you do, and get money, that is it.

How many pros actually 'live off' the purses

How many Athletes get into the business to think they can survive off of the prize money from these shows

I would say none, they are simply icing on the cake and apparently shared by a very select few.

This could be a battle of the magazines.  Flex and M&F against the rest.  MD and MM are supporting and promting the PDI, as well as many mags in Europe.  With AMI going south with these publications, soon they won't have enough power left to tread water.

I agree.  The IFBB is in serious financial trouble, it's reaching the end of the Weider era, & no one is in place to take it over & dedicate themselves to its continuance.  I'm not predicting failure, but it will have to make a lot of changes & they won't happen as long as Ben Weider is calling the shots from Montreal.

The IFBB will go after those who cross over with everything they've got, & don't expect to be treated fairly.

like they did with the WBF, until the WBF folded, when the athletes were welcomed back into the IFBB

There are several NPC events where prize money - in the form of travel reimbursements - is paid to the winners.

The whole concept of 'amateurism' has been twisted in America, and the NPC is no different in this regard.  At this point, they may as well openly embrace the modern Olympic example, which recognizes that athletes need to make money and will do whatever necessary to do so.

It is the same for an IFBB Pro. Until they compete in a PDI contest, the are not breaking a rule. But once you compete at the PDI Pro contest, it is done.

No actualy money can be given away but other incentives can.  Like offering to pay up to $500 (which I think was the limit) towards travel expenses to the Nationals (which I did).  Also, the trophy cannot exceed a certain amount in cost.  I think the limit of anything was $500 or so.  Not sure I can't rmeember
