Ordering supplements today, looking for suggestions
« on: July 25, 2006, 02:55:32 PM »
How's it goin guys? I've been fucking around on my training/dieting/supplementing ever since I started my new career and I'm really feeling depressed. I know some of it is stress but looking like shit sure isnt helping my self-esteem. I need a kick in the nuts to get my ass back in the gym so I'm ordering some supplements and asking you guys for some advice because I know there's some smart motherfuckers on this board. My usual supplement regime is this:

ECA stack for fat loss/workout intensity
(3 times a day for fat loss, preworkout only for adding mass)

Post workout shake containing:
Protein 30g
Carbs 20-30g from gatorade powdered drink mix
Creatine 5g
Glutamine 5g

Tribulus 3 times a day (twice on off days)

I was thinking of trying an NO product but I'm not sure which one. Bodybuilding.com voted BSN's NO Xplode as the best muscle builder of 2005 so I was considering picking up some of that. Do you guys have some advice on things I might be missing. Right now I'm 5'10" 215 but I'm about 30lbs overweight. I know, I know, I need to diet, I'm working on that too.

Depending on age I would not use DHEA.  If you are looking for a preworkout NO product I like Universal Shock-Therapy, it is very similar to No-Xplode but more reasonably priced.  Plus with the shock-therapy if you don't like it you can always get your money back.  You mentioned that you are really stressed out and that you take ECA 1-3 times a day.  When you are stressed your adrenals release stress hormones(fight or flight hormones).  When you take ECA you also stress your adrenals.  You might want to think about taking a break from the ECA till your things calm down, or at least to give your adrenals a break.  If you are worried about loosing weight and don't want to get off ECA think about trying a sesamin product during your break.

Here is what I am on.  I was in a similar situation, Desk job ( programmer ) for several months with no gym time. I put on some chub, got depressed.  This got me back in the rythm.

Optimum Nutrition Whey http://www.advantagesupplements.com/bopnut100whe1.html for post workout protien
Novedex XT http://www.advantagesupplements.com/ganunoxt60.htmlto get my Test Levels back up
Lipodrene http://www.advantagesupplements.com/hitephliwep1.htmlto help your mental focus by helping your body get oxygen throughout

You can also stack some caffiene in your mix, but I would advise against it since its too easy to crash on caffiene.

I am using these along with 45 minutes of cardio a day ( stair machine medium-high pace ).  You might need to start off with only 15 minutes on the stair machine before you get in shape.  Set small goals each time you goto the gym, and raise them over time.  Focus your workout around exceeding what you did the time before.  This will help build up your confidence, and make you feel like a man again.

I take more than one protein shake a day.  You need 1-1.5 grams per pound of body weight. If your getting a 30 gram shake a day after your workout, where are you getting the other 185 grams of protein. Consider a six ounce chicken breast has about 35 grams give or take are you getting that much meat a day.  I would just check your protein intake this will help with muscle growth and hence fat loss.

Skip the NO2 and pick up either a good MRP or add at least one Protein shake to your diet......

Add Cardio and eat good well balanced meals...

I liked the pumps from NO2 and from NO Explode but i just dont feel they are worth the $$$$.....Id rather use that money on a good quality protein, dextrose for PWO, and good whole foods and maybe some creatine since its dirt cheap and can work well for many people!

Hi Steve314,
My advice to you would be not to use the NO Xplode, and to skip the arginine powder UNLESS the arginine powder you take is ProArgi-9. Nitric Oxide (NO) cannot be taken, it is produced within the body from l-arginine. The vast majority of arginine formulations or supposed NO precursors on the market simply do NOT work. Taking them is simply a waste of money ...at best, but more realistically, ...they're a waste of money, AND extremely dangerous, causing more harm than they do benefit.

Arginine is what we refer to as "a blind amino acid" in that it doesn't know where to go in the body when separated out from it's brother or sister aminos. It is from this separation that we are able to derive all the benefits, ...however, it is also where we see all the dangers. Whether Nitric Oxide functions as either a neuroprotectant or a neurotoxin is determined by the NOS isoform. The isoforms synthesize Nitric Oxide in the body from l-arginine, and it is typically synthesized in the endothelial membrane by eNOS, however, NO can also be synthesized by iNOS. The majority of NO formulations contain antagonists that compete with arginine for the same metabolic pathway. Arginine needs a rider (or delivery system without competitive antagonists) to allow it to take the correct safe isoform pathway, where it can work it's magic and provide the user with all the benefits of arginine without any of the side effects.

There is ONLY one arginine on the market that has the ability to do that, which has been proven to be both safe & effective. That arginine is ProArgi-9, and it is the ONLY arginine formulation that is legally allowed to claim that it produces NO. There is no other arginine that can legally make that claim. In fact, there are a total of 15 claims about this product that have been approved by both the FDA & FTC

When the arginine molecule is bonded to it's rider (delivery system) it will be transported to exactly where we want it to go providing the user with all the benefits of arginine without any of the side effects. The rider (delivery system) for ProArgi-9 is derived from a very complex 32 step process of glycoside extraction from organic fruits. No other arginine formula has it, and no other arginine formula can have it. It is a patented proprietary process and is exclusively found in ProArgi-9

For further info on l-arginine please see the post: http://www.getbig.com/boards/index.php?topic=85418.msg1235098#msg1235098

If you're going to use arginine, make sure it is the ProArgi-9 brand.
If not ProArgi-9, then don't use any other arginine at all.

Hope That Helps,
w

I placed my order last week. Thanks for all your help. Here's what I picked up:

Sportpharma Thermadrene - Classic ECA formula, I love this stuff for the intensity it gives me.

Universal Nutrition Shock Therapy - This was recommended by someone over NO Xplode and was cheaper so I went for it. Just wanted to give the NO2 a shot. I've never tried NO2, some love it and some don't but the same goes for Tribulus and I am one who loves Trib.

Universal Nutrition Storm - Lots of servings and low cost so I picked this up as well. Supposed to stack well with the Shock Therapy. I figure if I dont get results from stacking both these then NO2 just isnt for me but at least I'll be comfortable knowing how I react to it.

Optimum Glutamine Powder - A must IMO.

Optimum Tribulus 625mg - Picked up 3 bottles, as mentioned before I love this stuff. I know some say its a waste but I get results from it.

I've already got enough protien to last a while and i have lots of creatine left although I just noticed it has an expiration date of 6/06 so I'll be picking up more soon. Anyone know if this stuff goes bad?

Thanks for the reply but sounds like a plug to me.

I guess explaining a product you use, understand, ...and also happen to sell is a plug.
There's no way around that. Put recommending a product you don't sell is also a plug.  :-\
The only way to remove any doubts about my motives would be to stop selling it, so I could recommend it without the perceived conflict of interest being there, ...but's hardly a practical solution is it?

In any event good luck to you in your efforts to be more disciplined in your training.
