Ban standing (semi)relaxed pose from competition?
« on: September 26, 2006, 12:06:23 PM »
Anyone else tired of the semi-relaxed pose that seems to be common in bodybuilding shows these days?  When did this become common practice?  Even worse is that figure competitors are picking up the practice.  If you ask me it looks unnatural.  The IFBB should ban it.

Now:

Then:

the guys these days have to be flexxed out so their guts don't protrude like when they really stand relaxed...

correction, Shari likes to keep it anal.

But no everyone stands erect now, the few I've seen at shows relaxed are Jay (sometimes) and Gunter, they are not relaxed but look calm so it just looks better while they are on stage.

That is damn near perfection. Too bad it's the ONLY pose he can hit correctly...  :(

when I think semi relaxed, I think of these few shots:

classic ronnie shot

look at flex - he is perfection in this shot.  his problem was his lats didn't pop any wider than this when he fully flexed them

I say leave it in.

it showcases strengths in some competitors..

and flaws in others..

therefore, it is a valid pose in which to assess a physique.

I agree with the "newer" way of doing the relaxed pose.  I don't like it at all. Its even worse when someone without lats attempts it. ( like you said the figure women)  Personally when i see a pic of a pro relaxed for real, it looks insane. their size just comes off even greater.

drop it or make sure the guys are doing what it's supposed to do, sticking your arms straight out to the side like a crucifix pose doesn't do what the pose is supposed to do.  All the 1/4 shots are stupid these days, no one knows how to hit em right anymore.....

agree, and the orange and gold or bronze whatever paint should go too, get a real lighting designer so they don't have to slog it on. Its all becoming so contrived and alien.

Like the Miss America and other pagents I think the Olympia and other IFBB shows shoudl have a "suit" round.  The guys come out in suits.
