i beg to differ . . .

I thought her bio of Maria Callas was empathetic, and an easy read.  The Picasso bio was filled with great dish and good insight into his misogynist, abusive character. She didn't bother much with his work, but then again, who needs to read another condescending exercise in academic pedantry. Thought hers was another great beach read.

Perhaps she accepted one in lieu of the other...  . Besides, in certain circles, social standing trumps other attributes.

I grew up in Canada, so no, the opportunity didn't really present itself.  But bareback at the beach is probably doable, if you're a competent equestrienne.
