1982 Olympia Video
« on: October 29, 2006, 11:33:01 AM »

The standards are so much different today than they were back then but I've never seen this video, ever.  I know it doesn't really show dickerson that much but around the 3:30 mark there's a shot of him standing totally relaxed and he looks pretty damn good if you ask me.  Chest is big, shoulders wide, small wasit, good abs and thighs.  Considering he's totally relaxed it's pretty impressive.  I'd love to see the whole show to get a feeling of how he really looked.

I have the 1982-1984 Olympias on DVD (R-) format.  Some awesome physiques there.  Back when pros did lots of steroids, but no GH/slin/IGF-1/synthol, etc...

I'd love to get copies of those.....interested in a trade for a bunch of blanks or anything?

agreed.  People tend to say he was the worst mr. O.  I think, considering the era he was fine.  I know some poeple didn't show up as I'm sure pumpster will point out but on stage that day dickerson looked pretty good to me, I'm just going off of pics I've seen and that video so I'm sure a full routine would tell alot more.

What is even more impressive is that he beat 2 mr. Olympias in that show which is a feat in itself. You can also see how much class he has at the end when he bowed down to Zane.

dickerson didn't have a wipeout type of build but he was very polished that day and looked very good from the back...

his calves have to rank up there as some of the nicest ever imo...

Blanks?  As in blank DVD-Rs?  Yeah, I don't mind sending them to you, since you can't buy them anywhere.  Either there is no demand or it is just poor marketing.  I've reviewed them on my website.

I should get some screencaps up.  Those old videos are awesome.  Lee Haney's video ruled!!

I'll PM you.

Was Chris shorter than Columbu?  If so, he would be the shortest Mr. Olympia in history.

I think Franco was shorter...not positive but I'm pretty sure.

Those calves are out of this world. I hear he used to go lighter for higher reps. For standing calf raises he would do 300 pounds for something like 30 reps!

Chris was 5'6" if I remember correctly and Franco was 5'5" but looked smaller.

Although I think that he was a little better in 81 I have no problem with him winning in 82. I Remember seeing pics of him at Bill Pearls ranch about 4 months out. He decided to take one more try at the Olympia. I never thought that he would have gotten in that kind of shape. He barley looked like he lifted at all. The one thing about these guy back then was when they posed shit happened. All the little muscle fibers and detail came alive when they posed unlike these guys today. Not a put down just an example of how things have changed. Seeing them in a still picture and then seeing them posing on film or live makes you realize how much detail that they had in their physique.

I think Phil Heath and Richard Jones had this effect too.

The break probably helped him more than hurt him especially after having trained for so long beforehand...

The 1982 Olympia should be buried in history.
A good IFBB fix, and Casey should have won that show hands down.
No one would have complained , like people do with Dickerson

82 ranks up there with the biggest gifts in O history. Along with 80, 81, and Yates' one arm bandit escapade(forgot the year?).
That should have been Bannout's 1st win or Viator, close-call.

Platz, Mentzer, Fox, all robbed in that era. Dickerson had fantastic lower leg development, and great shape, but does he represent the best the elite of bbing had to offer in 82? I've never understood how he won that show, it wasnt on merit.

I'll say this about posing standards.  They suck today vs. the 80's.  I wish I could post the routine of Rich Gaspari from the 86 pro world.  It's so f'n intense, so well thought out, so well executed, he wasn't even the best poser at that show bet he'd put 99% of the guys to shame that are on stage right now.  No gay dancing, no raise  the roof bullshit just an awsome routine.

Well, whales, elephants, hippos, bulls and the like, dont really eat much meat, and pretty much rely on their greens and they're pretty big.

Unless you trespass their turf, then they'll make an exception, and make some ground-beef.
Much like Beckles and Cahling, pretty sure if its 3am, they're driving down the street, they're starving their asses off, and theres an open MickeyD's sign, what are they gonna do? Go home and have some wheat grass? I think not.

I thought Bill Pearl was a vegetarian too.  I gained 15 - 20lbs  being a lacto and egg vegetarian. Not anymore but I wish I was cause cholestrol is up these days.
