You know, as I read this stupid grunting bullshit over and over...I find myself getting angrier at the fact that if it wasn't for "grunting Muscleheads", this stupid bitch manager wouldn't have a gym to manage...boycott that fuckin place...its unacceptable!

likewise.  With the no grunting rule they shouldn't be in the business of lifting weights anyway.

absolutely, but what would be more effective is to write a sane email to Planet Fitness expressing your unhappiness with their policy and the gym manager. Tell them how the gym, one of the last bastions of masculiity, is becoming increasingly feminized by feminists and you will not stand for it. Throwing a male member out for grunting is male bashing plain and simple.

I am not trying to back Planet Fitness or anything, but the gym is not set up for bodybuilders or powerlifters, nor do they advertise to influence them to join...From a management point-of-view, I have to tell you guys that bodybuilders and powerlifters make up less than 10% of the members that come to gyms...Hard core gyms are a dying breed in themselves...

exactly....

planet fitness is 2 steps above curves! would you go to curves and complain when they wouldnt let you work out? there is no need to "boycott" a gym like that.....most of us wouldnt use a pussy gym like that anyway.

do yourself a favor and dont worry so much about it. planet fitness markets to people that you wouldnt want in YOUR gym....the people that get in your way....the dilly dalliers, the book readers, the people that bench press 100lbs for 20 minutes on your favorite bench, etc. planet fitness does us all a favor by giving these people a place to workout.

complain all you want...but would you rather have those people in your gym...or that lady managing your club?

let it go guys.....

Jaggy, I know, but places like these are making the other gyms close and lessening options for people.

110% support the boycott!

Its called business lol...If there was a sudden surge of bodybuilders and powerlifters than places like planet fitness would go down hill...The sad fact is that planet fitness appeals to the majority guys...No one forces you to go to these gyms, plus owning and operating a gym to stay in the black is a tough task trust me...Again I state that bodybuilders and powerlifters are such a small percentage of most gyms that it doesn't make good business sense to market towards them...

I hear ya and I understand everything is ran by market forces and respect that you were in a position of knowledge....but when a company goes too far with rules and restrictions that affects a large amount of people, there needs to be backlash!  What happened to that corrections officer is just not reasonable and as long as he wasn't violent or verbally assaulting to the manager, he should file a lawsuit!

Are you really serious lol???? Wow, I am not trying to cut you down, but if the rules of a private club of any kind are placed in plain view than that person has the right to file a lawsuit...LoL...But to even think about winning the lawsuit not a chance lol...Plus how do their rules affect a large amount of people??? With what your saying, people should sue bars too for not letting people under 21 in them...You have to think of the bigger picture here...I wish the best for the corrections officer if he persues a lawsuit, because I have actually watched others try the same thing and just waste alot of their own money on set in stone rules of a private club lol...This is amazing that you guys are getting so worked up about this lol....

According to this Associated Press article, they expel someone about every 2 weeks for grunting or dropping weights -interpreted by Planet Fitness as "trying to show how strong you are"..

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Some gyms forbid hogging machines and or wearing flip flops. At one gym, grunting is grounds for expulsion. Albert Argibay of Beacon, N.Y. was escorted by police officers from a gym this week for grunting _ which is against Planet Fitness' rules for maintaining a non-intimidating atmosphere.

Its rules, posted around the gym, state members cannot wear bandanas, grunt or bang weights on the ground. When an offender is spotted, a "lunk alarm" sounds to warn the member.

Across its locations nationwide, there is at least one expulsion every two weeks, said Mike Grondahl, CEO of Planet Fitness. He said grunting and dropping weights are the most common offenses.

"When somebody's in there and they grunt and they grunt loud, it's trying to bring attention to themselves to show everyone how strong they are," Grondahl said.

Argibay emitted the offending grunt Monday evening, a peak time for gyms, said Carol Palazzolo, the gym's general manager. She said she heard it from across the room, even though "the place was a zoo."

"He was looking directly at me and he did it four times," she said. "I'm not a doctor, but as far as I know, a grunt is a noise that comes out of one's body that is loud and is intimidating."

An argument ensued when she confronted him, and the police were called. Argibay was escorted out, but no charges were filed.

"It's an embarrassing situation to be in, over a grunt," Argibay said.

Most clubs have policies regarding proper gym manners, although expulsions are rare, said Brooke Correia, spokeswoman for the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association.

Grunting might be more taboo in gyms like Planet Fitness, which cater to exercise novices, Correia said.

The heaviest dumb bells at Planet Fitness are 80 pounds, meaning it's a place geared toward the general public, Palazzolo said.

She didn't know if Argibay was a chronic offender _ he'd only been a member since Sept. 27. But it was the first time she kicked a member out for grunting.

"I don't know the reason behind grunting or not grunting. But if you need to grunt, you may go and join another gym," she said.

these places do provide an economical solution for some.

Can't you work out hard without grunting?  I know I can.

But worse would be about 100 people on cardiovascular machines stairing at you while you lifted weights.  They have the cardiovascular machines all lined up looking down on the weight pit.  You would definately feel judged in this non judgement zone place.

i used to train at a 24hr fitness that had a mngr like this... he would constantly tell bigger guys to not slam the weights, yet when little guys did it he said nothing. making bigger guys follow all the rules of the gym, yet other people constantly broke them and would say nothing. i found out the truth that he himself took heavy cycles yet had piss poor genetics and was small. so it all stemmed to the fact that he wanted to get big but couldn't so he hated on the bigger guys.

Just saw the story on our local news channel. The guy is definitley a lifter, ha ha. The gym manager was interviewed and she was such a whiner. This definitely is not a gym for serious weight trainers, as others have said on this thread. I wonder why they have free weights at all?

How many on this board ever worked out at a Planet Fitness?  You may find 2-3.  It's not a place for the serious lifter.  You sign up there- you better read the rules.
