It depends on the body structure of the person as to how much mass they can hold comfortably....

When it starts to become a struggle to bathe yourself due to all the muscle limiting range of motion, I'd say it's too much.

but anyways, by bodybuilding standards those guys barely used weight training to build themselves up. It was such training as the Spartan methods which gave them physiques such as that, yeah worse than bodybuilding, but worse results as well.
