I've been trying it recently, but I do thickness one week.  BB rows, DB rows, TBars one week and Wide Grip, Close Grip pulldowns and seated rows the next.

really depends on how the rest of you're routine is set up.  How many days a week are you training?  What's your recovery like?  If you'er doing it just to do it and adding an extra day than no it's not a good idea.

What are your specific goals and or reasoning for doing this?

As a general rule I would say it is not a good idea, however as Al said it depends on your goals etc.

Myself I like to keep back simple with only 3-4 exercises at most! So splitting that up would be pointless.

My advice is just to include deads as this has been said a million times before I still have no hesitation in posing it again and again I believe in them that much.

K.I.S.S  (Keep It Simple Stupid)  should be applied here: Why anyone thinks that  "spliting" up a back workout makes sense may need a reality check. Trying for a separate workout for width and another for thickness, a person must have not spent serious time doing DL's, chins, BB rows and other  quality back movements.

Try working with serious intent on:

DL's (rack), BB rows (curl grip) and bent arm pullovers in that order, in the same workout, twice a week for the next 3 months and your concerns about width and thickness should be solved. Good Luck.

i train five days now
chest/abs
legs
off
shoulders/calves
back/traps
arms/4arms

my goal is to get my back wider.  my back is thick but i feel that im just to narrow. My  goal now is to  keep what i have built  and to  work  on improven some bodypart.. i have the base down now.

i would only do  chins, pulldowns and the high row machine,, about 9 working sets.

i feel that I  dont really work the lats to the  fullest.. i only do two lat movements for lats in a normal back day..

Back, Like legs is a challenge day. It seperates the hardcores from the "fit boys". Back is sketchy cuz you never know if your going to puke but the feeling is there and it stays. The whole back should be hit from all angles. I don't think i've had the same back workout in months, its always different. 15 sets is a warm up. IMO i love ending with deadlifts, you can really feel the whole back contract.

first, I wouldn't split it up, keep it the same and try out some different movements, watch your form, how much are you swinging when you're doing pulldowns?  there are tips and techniques that can bring the lats into a movement more depending on what movements you use.  Parillo used to recommend rounding your back and having your elbows a little in front of the body while doing front pulldowns...

i was considering splitting it up too.  i do get a great back workout, but i just want to try something different for a month or 2.  i was thinking of this..

delts/upper back
legs
off
chest/low back
off
arms
off

cant decide if im gonna try it or not.  i love switching splits too much.  the current BFT style and split is giving me great results, but im still tempted by boardom.
