Which is tougher Soccer or basketball
« on: February 01, 2007, 12:45:50 PM »
Me and my homeboy had an argument the other day... I told him a basketball player could convert easier to a soccer player than a soccer player can convert to a good basketball player andhe said the opposite...what do yall think

I've played both. I think soccer is even more a technnical sports. That's why you see all kinds of athletes succeed (short, big, latino, black, white,...).

I think it's impossible to convert. Unless you practice a lot starting at a young age, you'll never get good.

Yea, I'm sure that a basketball player could convert.  ::)  Like the post above said, you really couldn't.  In terms of conditioning, soccer players would win every time against a BBall player.  However, the height required for Basketball would put them at a disadvantage.  That being said, basketball players are too tall to compete in pro soccer.  I could just see those lurpy douches running up and down a soccer field trying to kick the ball.

In between basketball seasons?  Both sets of guys would not adapt well.

That's possible, because your physical talent is much more important in basketball.
In soccer you can't do that imo, you have to start training your technique much earlier.

On the size aspect. There are a couple of strikers out there who are pretty tall.
But it's not really a plus either, you need to have a really good balance and control or your body while running.

Don't the Americans have some defender who's like 6'7?

Oguchi Onyewu is like 6'4 or 6'5 I think.

He's just signed on loan to Newcastle. He's a good solid player. He'll like Newcastle, it's fucking freezing lol Great night life too

Basketball players would absolutely have the hardes time adjusting. During a basketball game the athlete never really has to commit to an all out sprint for more than a few yards, watch the game. the cardio difference would also be to difficult to adjust to. Steve Nash reportedly is a good soccer player though and i think he excells in basketball, but i think even he would need to train for the cardio adjustment in soccer.
however when i comes to both sports i can only really watch the last few minutes of the game.

Basketball is non-stop. Basketball players are some of the most well conditioned athletes in all of athletics.

Soccer, two 45 min halves?  Constant sprinting.  Why do you think these guys have pretty big calves and awesome quads. The explosiveness they have would be harder for a BBall player.

lol there was a bball riot not long ago lol.

btw folks its football not soccer.

beckham for example runs like 11km easily in a game. in football u need to sprint as well as be fit, have strength athleticism, touch, be able to use both fett your head its a lot trickier than yanks thing.
