OK, I don't agree with him skipping the vote, he should be there. He's right though, it is Political Trickery what's the point of a "nonbinding resolution criticizing Bush's plan to boost the number of troops"?

He's going to burn in hell for missing a meaningless "no confidence" vote on a nonbinding resolution that he would have voted against anyway?  I'd be more concerned if there was any substance to this resolution and/or if he later tried to take no position on the issue.

When my wife is caught out in a laughably obvious bit of selfishness, she coyly says, "So?"

So this is where I say: "So?"

Yeah, it's the kind of politicking that would make me gorge with bile if the other side did it.

Maybe that's how it works for Republicans too. If you find them in a reflective mood, they'll grudgingly admit that their guys are pretty despicable...

Yet somehow, they're still your guys. And you hold out a slim hope that maybe they'll get it right someday.

But I totally agree with you. Each and every one of those fu#kers are seriously going to burn in Hell too.

Meaningless?

Hardly.

It will be used to define a candidate's position which will affect him/her in 2008.

McCain doesn't want to be on the losing end of this one - he'll lose his backers if he supports the resolution, and he'll be labeled as supporting Bush's war, if he doesn't.

And this resolution IS very meaningful.  You will hear plenty about this not only in 2008, but in the coming months as additional war legislation comes.  And rushing it on a saturday, you'd better believe the dems have a nice agenda for monday morning, to act with the results of this.

Everyone knows how McCain feels about the war, he has been very vocal.  Missing a vote on a resolution may not be as important as you think, at least for someone like McCain.  Candidates on the Democrat side would not mniss this vote for the world, however.

An abstention has the same effect as a "no" vote, which is how he would have voted anyway.  His position on the issue is clear.  Why should he waste his time?

Cause it would show he outright defies what he should consider some bullshit.

Instead, he's "sitting out" a vote where for his partys sake, he should be LEADING the charge against it.

I guess he's more of a politician than a leader.

I think in some part of the poor bastard's mind, he's still trying to avoid losing in Vietnam.

You should vote because that's what this country is about.

If a no vote is a "no", then I can only wonder what would happen if the presidential elections were tallied in the same way.
