My old school gave many scholarships to people for performance.  Had nothing to do with income.  That comes into play on *some*, but on others, it's whoever qualifies academically and writes the best essay.

My schools had both... So I had to perform well to receive any of them.

Not that my parents were loaded, but they made more than apparently was the limit for "wage based" scholarships.
