Yes, that's included in the rules of the cage.  The sticky will be locked until the essays are in.  Basically for the purpose of headlining the event.  Then when the essays are submitted to a mod, the mod will post the essays and unlock the thread for 3 days of debate and voting by members.  Then I guess we're on to the next battle...

However, changing the rules to say "reasonable length" could be interpreted in different ways, depending on the verbosity of the individual.  Why don't you split the difference and say approx 850 - 1000 words, which should be sufficient to make a case.

good point, thanks Deedee, I think we just decided that the length limit be agreed upon by the two particpating so they'll both have equal room to move.  In this case I think they'll negotiate a longer length since it's abortion.  Some topics wouldn't require much, but some topics like abortion will require more room.

Thanks, Debussey - and good luck to you too!  Don't worry, I'm as new to this as you are, and I haven't written a solid English essay since high school (which is probably not as long ago for me as most here).  I'll be keeping it pretty simple in my piece, but I have some good points I'd like to make without the need for in depth research or cluttered information.  I'm looking to make sound logic the key to my essay rather than complexity - I think that's more appropriate for this issue.
