Double-digit lawsuits against LAPD
« on: May 04, 2007, 04:02:51 PM »

And that's within 3 days.

We expect there to be at least 3 dozen civil suits filed.

Over stupidity.

Our men and women in uniform *must* be held to a higher standard when it comes to acting within the law.

And yes, non-citizens can file civil suits.

That is insane...be illegally in a country and have the right to file a lawsuit.....I'm not sure but that probably is not a possibility in any other country.  Does anyone know?

It's like our great border control agents shooting illegal immigrant drug dealers and getting sent to jail...Crazy world we live in.

really too bad, get rid of the illegals and this all could have been avoided.

Bare in mind folks, that crowd was not a crowd of illegals, it was a crowd of people... Americans!
Some legal, some not, ...but when you fire into a crowd like that, you should expect litigation trouble.

If taxpayers have a problem with paying hefty civil damages, they should hold their law enforcement officers to higher standards.

IF Americans have a law suit because they got hit then that is fine, however, if Illegal people have a law suit they should have no grounds for suing.

I, Obviously, realize that is not true because many cases in the past have proven it.

Take Bernard Geutz (sp) in ny in the 80's...he was mugged with a weapon, shot to defend and then offend himself and he got sued successfully by one of the assailants.

In this particular case, I do have a problem with it and I feel the immigration officers should be held to a higher regard...they  should not have been in this country...they are 100% illegal, they have NO right to be protesting in our country.  If we did it in theirs we would be in jail, true or not?

You sure about that?  I have no idea, but it doesn't make sense.  The minute they appear in a lawsuit they get deported.

Once again you fail to make any sense..

Those fuckers threw stuff at the officers but they act as though they're being treated like shit, when essentially they're living in the states undisturbed.

And those illegals who don't even any status are filing lawsuits with the money of american tax payers. We have every right to be angry..  :-\

That is a horrible example. The victims shot by Getz, were NOT illegals, ...they were Americans born & bred.

Furthermore, Getz did not fire in self defense. They did NOT mug Getz. Bernard Getz found himself on a subway train with a group of young men, and fearful of being mugged, he opened fire on them. His, actions were a pre-emptive offensive attack, based on paranoia, not a reactive, defensive act, based on any assault against his person by these young men, ...and that is why he lost. We have all been witnessing the folly of pre-emptive offensive acts based on paranoia on a national level for the past 6 years. How's that going for you so far?  ::)

And if this were Afghanistan or some other part of the world, you would have been stoned for many of the things you've done, ...doesn't mean it has to occur here. This is North America. In my case Canada, ...and in your case America. There are certain rights available to all people (for now) regardless of their citizenship, ...including the right to assemble peaceably. If the right of peaceful assembly to protest is not available in other parts of the world, ...if such an action would result in prosecution elsewhere, that is not valid enough a reason to proceed in the same fashion in a country that guarantees people the right to do so.

You protect the rights of others in order to ensure your own, ...a lesson that appears lost on many of you,
...however, in the last few years I think many of you are in fact waking up to that truth. At least you should be.

More appologist nonsense..

In your arguement you fail to explain why americans such as myself should pay for an illegal's right to sue.

You fail to explain why those people have right to try and engage police officers by throwing shit.

These people are protesting over nothing.. First, they're being given a free stay in america, so they have no legit reason to be actually angry. They're taking away equity from not just american citizens, but also people with green cards. If anything, legal immigrants and americans should be angry and protesting.

Due to appologist like you, these people are arrogant beyond belief... They actually think the American people owe them something.

Personally I'm sick of all this nonsense.. If I had my way I'd grant amnesty to the illegals already here and shut down the borders. Any illegals getting caught after the closing would be jailed.

I never said anyone had the right to throw things at police. Those who do should be arrested.
What I am saying is that it is irresponsible and reckless for officers to fire into the crowd the way they did.

I have not taken any stance on illegal immigration, or potential amnesty etc.,
My statement is based upon the actions of those officers which I felt was inappropriate.

Had I been out on the street, and gotten shot by police, I can assure you there would be hell to pay!

This thread is the reason why my Common Sense initiative needs to be mandated in the U.S.

To those of you so adamant about denying non-citizens the right to due process and the right to assemble peaceably, I ask the following questions:

1) If you were visiting another country (for whatever reason), would it be fair for the local police to beat you even though you were offering no resistance to their directions?

2) If you were visiting another country and were accused of a crime, regardless of whether you did it or not, would it be fair for the local authorities to throw you into jail and deny you legal counsel and further deny you so much as a trial?

I wasn't talking about due process.  You mentioned illegal aliens having the right to file civil lawsuits.  If there ain't a law prohibiting this, there ought to be.

In response to your questions:

1.  If I was in another country, legally or illegally, the local police should not have the right to be beat me if I was offering no resistance to their directions.

2.  If was visiting another country illegally and accused of a crime, it would be fair for local authorities to deny tax-payer funded defense counsel.

1. Have you ever traveled to any south american country? No not the bubble tourists areas, the real areas?

2. Happens all the time, the 1st and 2nd main source if income for some nations is blackmail and kidnapping.

My great cousin was into having fun went to Mexico in 1990 and never came back, the authorities are holding him, his family is worth millions many times over have worked with the embassy and senators and still cannot get them to budge. You have no common sense so whatever your inititive is, you have already failed it.

The law acts as a deterent for bad behaviour on both sides. If you remove thier ability to file civil suites the police are less inclined to respect thier rights.
