I have 4 Spiders at home, One Mexican Red Knee, One Pinky, One Bolivian Black and one Poki... I love the Bolivian Black the most she is seriously curious every time I do something in her tank, if I move the bowl of water she needs to come out and slowly checks out my hand and what I hold in it.
Spiders are awesome.
I've got a rose hair in my office at work.... I know its a bit morbid, but I specifically got that tarantula to draw hemolymph from it. I feel like a hypocrit because I've published articles on tarantula surgical techniques but I've never successfully drawn hemolymph or done a hemolymph transfusion..... so I get the tarantula and now don't have the heart to go poking it with a needle because its a perfectly healthy tarantula. Instead it guards my office.
One of the wierdest clients I've ever had was a tarantula breeder. He had about 800 tartantulas in his basement---ranging from common species like red knees and rose hairs to goliath bird eaters to some really exotic species like neon blue skeletons. He kept them all in his basement. There was this weird "gritty" sound down there of them rustling in their enclosures as they moved around.... that and the thousands of eyes staring at me kind of freaked me out....
