I disagree a little.  I think they work hand in hand.  If the QB has all day the WR can eventually get open even with good CB and vice versa, good coverage allows for some sacks.  A good pass rush negates the need for super human CB's like Deon in his day.

True.  You can hide an average secondary if you have a good rush.  This has been the Niners biggest problem on D since they were dumb enough to trade Haley to the Cowboys.   :-\

I will use the Redskins as a example, they have a pretty good secondary and a horriable D line. A couple of years ago they played good defense without a really good rush. The panthers have had a really good line but it's taken getting good CB's to make it a defense. I agree it helps to have both but I think you can hide a D line more then a sloppy secondary.

Nice analogy. You won't find a cornerback these days without speed, though.

Didn't Otis Smith play for like 20 seasons?

At least 15 years in the league. Most of them with the Patriots I think.

Body88 would know.

Otis retired as a pat. Smith returned a int 47 yards for a td in the 96 afc championship game. Helping send the pats to there second sb. Smith also had a huge pick in sb XXXVI in 2001 when the pats won it all. He actually led the pats in ints that year. He had a knack for big time plays in big time games.

Smith also played for the Jets and the eagles.

So you don't need speed at Cornerback.

What makes you think 'ol man Otis wasn't fast during his heydey?

In the NFL, you have to be fast to be a cornerback. There isn't starting cornerback in the league right now that runs  slower than 4.55 in the 40 yard dash.

Someone name some names if I'm wrong.

Wow.  I've never heard of a corner with 4.7 speed getting drafted, particularly in the third round.  He'll probably play safety, unless he has great football speed.  Or maybe he was injured at the combine?

Where in the NFL you don't need to be fast? But yes, corner needs to be fast, to be able to play mano-i-mano, on every level.

My picks.

On offence - the Line , if only one player then RB. Runs away the clock and keeps your offence on the field

On D. Mike Lb - Gotta be able to stop the run.
How many of the better NFL D.s have a lousy MLB ?

I never saw that either. But he cant play safety either. i would venture to say his strength will be in the cover 2. he obviously has something scouts like and i think its his ball instincts which will serve him will in a 2 scheme where he has to make decision at the snap of the ball and react quickly

If he is a true 4.7 then about the only thing he'll be able to play is a cover 2 or maybe be the fifth for sixth DB in a nickel or dime package.  Can't imagine he would be able to cover someone like Steve Smith, Stallworth, and pretty much most of the starting WRs in the NFL man up.

Sure he was fast during his heyday...but he wasn't fast in his later years and still played at a high level.

Looks like he had 8 INTs last year.  That's a ton for a corner.

Center-calls all the blocking schemes
Middle lb-calls the defense
