Well, the best vertical jump for this years NFL combine was 41 1/2 inches according to their website.  I seriosly doubt someone beat that by 20 inches.
I know it! Saying some guy leaped over 14'2"is absurd. The world high jump record in around 8' with full running start. 14 ft is pole vault ht LOL

14 feet is pretty absurd . . . it's a big deal when basketball players can touch the top of the backboard which is only 12 feet high.  I really doubt someone can outjump them by 2 whole feet . . .

Impressive! A vertical jump is from a stand still position going SRAIGHT UP(no running start) but it's still impressive as hell.
The smack talkers claiming "uh I could do that" need to fall the fuck back and lay off the the pipe. Most of you couldn't even touch the rim of a standard 10 foot basket

The world record vertical is at 60" by Kadour Ziani.

Obviously these aren't real verticals, but i gotta give credit where credit is due, both these guys can jump and have some serious talent

that is all true, but they don't hold the world record for a vertical jump.  they were both great for being in a sport litered with trees

what is the world record, and is it from a running jump, or standing still?

A true vertical leap , is standing and jumping straight up , not getting a running start or a drop step.

Maybe basketball , but I am for sure on football. I went to 3 college combines including the univeristy of Florida and not once were we allowed a drop step

im referring to the NFL combine, and there they allow you to take one drop step with a pivot foot foot that stays planted. That is the traditional vertical leap that organized basketball has used.  ::)

   BULLSHIT

Spaulding sporting goods held a biannual Robert T. Spaulding 'High Dunk' contest, in which Mugsy Bogues placed first in 1990, 1992, and 1994.

it's confusing.  he says his hands are too small to grip the ball, but he has dunked regularly in practices, etc, and in this spaulding thing, whatever that is.  i don't think he's ever done it in a game.
