Phil stated that he feels he needs to make more improvements to place in the top 6, or even the top 10 at the Olympia so he's sitting out. He's planning on competing in the Ironman, Arnold and Olympia next year.
Do you guys think he will improve enough to place top 6 next year at the Olympia??

because he's white, to clowns like this guy you can't be anything but a refridgerator if you're a white bodybuilder.

This is a very smart move for him. Yates did the same thing from 88-90.

Good thats not a show for him to be competing in hes not a big boy yet.
I agree it's a smart move. He should be able to win the Ironman and place top 3 at the Arnold depending on who shows up. I still don't think a year is enough time for him to beat Jay, Ronnie or Victor obviously. Dexter maybe. Freeman, probably not. So he could place top 5 at the O next year.

I think its a good idea. He would be barely competitive right now for the top 6 spots.
He's done so well in such a short amount of time, but if you look he did not improve that much up since his pro debut and 5th place finish at the AC this year.
I prefer his type of physique, but it's not being rewarded by the judges. If these judging trends continue, he has no choice but to gain more weight and possible lose his good lines & separation to place higher.

Bit of difference there - Yates had yet to enter a pro contest by early 1990 so taking a break after he turned pro was a smart move. Heath on the other hand is taking a break halfway through his pro career - he isn't going to make any drastic improvements that will scare off Cutler. The current Mr O is going to be around for a good while yet so te other guys (Heath included) are just going to have to get used to it. Heath's too small to be Mr Olympia anyway - he should be satisfied with doing a Shawn Ray and placing top five in every Olympia he enters and concentrating on making money from sponsorship and his image.

Shawn had originally suggested to Phil that he sit out from the Olympia for another 2 years and just rack up the money in the smaller competitions and tour around the world guest posing and signing new sponsorship contracts...It seems to me that Phil is much more intelligent than most young bodybuilders after he seen first hand what he looked like compared to some of the bigger guys at the Arnold this year...IMO Phil is making a very smart decision by sitting out....

Exactly - Heath'll make money whether he enters the Olympia or not - he's a fan favourite like Shawn Ray was in his prime and has that marketability that a lot of the bigger guys don't have. Taking a couple of years out won't hurt him.

Definitely Top 6 next year. I gotta believe this is the last hoorah for Ronnie win or lose. In fact I put Phil in the Top 5 with Cutler,Martinez, Jackson, and Freeman.

I agree with you...By Olympia 2008 Heath will have put on enough mass to hang in there with guys like Martinez...Also, Heath's conditioning is almost on the same level as Cutler he just doesn't have enough mass to make a dent in the fridge yet...

I'm pretty sure Jay knows what the fuck he's doing. Staying that lean year round only helps you come in better condition and you don't have to fucking kill yourself dieting.

I agree, anything can happen. A lot of top pros never even set foot on the Olympia stage. That's hard to pass up.
