Forearm Clicking/Pain
« on: February 02, 2007, 05:13:24 PM »
Hi, This is my first post, woohoo!

Anyways,

About a year ago I was doing reverse barbel curls on a preacher bench palms facing down. Towards the end of last set, there was a pop/clicking  sound on top of left forearm accompanied by slight pain. No swelling, bruising or visible inflammation. Went to doc, was basically told its nothing and I should be back normal in 2-3 weeks. And that I could continue doing weight training just no reverse curls or similar movements. Clicking continued throughout the following 3 weeks even when I did regular dumbbell curls palms facing forward. And there was throbbing pain after every workout, but next day all pain was gone. Due to other reasons, I stopped lifting and currently have no health insurance.

Fast forward to today. For past week I've started training again at home with lite weights, 10-20lbs dumbbells. To my surprise while doing regular dumbbell curls I heard and felt clicking in very same location. Clicking happens on positive movement. After workout last night exactly the same heavy throbbing pain. Also, while doing curls I have to stop curling with left arm not because biceps are fatigued but because pain in forearm becomes unbearable. After 24 hours pain is completely gone, just as before.  One would think a 12 month rest would have healed things....So whatever happened it was more serious than originally diagnosed. And, without using any weights, if I make a very tight fist and do curls with palm in Hammer or Reverse (palms down) curl positions, there is audible clicking with no pain. But if I make a very tight fist and do regular curl with palm facing up, there is no clicking, but I do feel very slight movement in the affected area.

I have tried to be very detailed in my description. Of course I don't expect anyone to tell me with 100% certainty what is wrong,  but I know there are people here far more experienced than myself so personal insights is all I know I can ask for.  I've included an illustration with area causing pain/clicking highlighted below.

I should also mention that during the 12 months of no lifting my forearm never bothered me while doing regular things that life requires.

i have no experience and this but 12 months is plenty of rest so my advice would to see another doctor or some kinda specialist and get a second opinion, something aint right. whether you need surgery or there's some kinda exercises you can do to heal it or whatever i dont know, but rest apparantely isnt doing it, so it's time to look for other ways...

stick around, others may have other suggestions..

I am going through the same thing right now. I am about to get an MRI soon. Pain has been around for 2 months now. From all the research I have done I am willing to guess its a partial distal biceps tear. Any kind of curling motion causes pain and in 2 months of no weight training at all the injury has not healed or gotten better at all. I will post back when I get the MRI done.
