Really?  What happened?

DAVENPORT, Iowa -- Boxer Antwun Echols, a former super middleweight contender who twice lost to Bernard Hopkins, was shot in the leg while trying to break up a fight in the parking lot of a grocery store and was later arrested on drug charges.

Police said Echols sustained a minor wound Sunday night and was taken to a hospital. The suspect fled in a sport utility vehicle.

Police were called to the store, where they found Echols and Stevie Hodges, both of Davenport. Hodges had been knocked to the ground and kicked, police said.

Hodges had been confronted by another man and a fight followed, police said. Echols intervened and pushed the suspect away from Hodges. The suspect then shot Echols once in the leg with a handgun, police said.

The 35-year-old Echols was taken to Genesis Medical Center for treatment. A call to the hospital Monday was not immediately returned. Hodges, 34, refused treatment, police said.

Both men were later arrested.

Echols was charged with possession of crack cocaine and outstanding warrants for child support issues, police said.

He was being held Monday in the Scott County jail without bond.

Hodges was charged with possession of crack cocaine and disorderly conduct. He was released after posting a $2,275 bond, jail officials said.

Police said an arrest warrant was issued for James Lee Grant, whom they described as a suspect in the shooting. Grant is being charged with willful injury, going armed with intent and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Echols fought Hopkins twice for the IBF middleweight title, with Hopkins winning by unanimous decision in 1999 and by technical knockout a year later. In 2003, Echols lost a unanimous decision to Anthony Mundine for the vacant WBA super middleweight title.

Echols has a record of 31-7-3, with 27 knockouts. He last won Dec. 12, 2004, and his most recent fight was a loss to Fulgencio Zuniga on June 23.

I heard about that, on paper, the Mosley/Cotto fight seems more appealing to me. Mayweather/Hatton could go two ways and they would both be ugly, 1. Mayweather does his usual potshot and run the whole fight, or Hatton can do his Greco-esque style wrestling whilst landing on the inside, not pretty but at least he's finished fights recently with it.  That's a shame about Echols, he falls into the category of athletes that are at the upper level of their sport (at least he used to be) that never outgrow their stupid old habits, and crack for that matter, cmon.  Thanks for the article bro.

So far Pavlik has developed a great poise, in a championship fight this is essential. He dismantled Miranda by sticking to his game and slowly(or not so slowly) chipping away at him.  If he can remain calm and stick to his game plan than I am sure he can give Taylor a great fight.  He has all the tools necessary to win.

Joshua Clottey is probably the most underatted boxer today.

Great speed, power and stamina.

Guys, what are your pics for Cotto vs Mosley??

Clottey is underrated, but the dude can't catch a break (Baldomir,Margarito)
He clearly beat Baldomir, and was clearly beating Margarito until his hand injury.  He did whip Diego though (although I think Diego wouldve been better suited for 140lbs).  As for the Cotto/Mosley fight, im goin with Mosley.  No one up to this point has been able to kill/ or avoid Cotto's foward momentum, I think Shane can.
