He fails to explain how a theory with such an important defect succeeds nevertheless in calculating planetary motion and such things to a far higher degree of accuracy than any other theory in existence.

Planetary motion can never be exact as the universe is headed toward entropy.  Calculations are adjusted solely for this premise.
