Citizens in Vermont vote to Impeach Bush/Cheney

MARLBORO, Vt. (AP) - The focus was in Brattleboro, but when it came time for Town Meeting, another town beat Brattleboro to the punch in calling for the indictment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney.

In a non-binding floor vote, residents of the southern Vermont town of 978 people approved an article that calls for Bush and Cheney to be arrested for crimes against the Constitution.

The vote was 43 for, 25 against and three abstentions.

Town Clerk Nora Wilson says the measure, which was introduced from the floor under "other business," isn't binding since it didn't appear on the warning for the meeting.

In Brattleboro, voting goes until 7 p.m., so it's not known yet whether the article was passed there.


The article read: "Shall the Selectboard instruct the Town Attorney to draft indictments against President Bush and Vice President Cheney for crimes against our Constitution, and publish said indictments for consideration by other authorities and shall it be the law of the town of Marlboro that law enforcement agencies hired by the Town of Marlboro, pursuant to the above-mentioned indictments, arrest and detain George Bush and Richard Cheney in Marlboro if they are not duly impeached, and prosecute or extradite them to other authorities that may reasonably contend to prosecute them?"

I don't know to which case you refer.  I'm certain an obvious miscarriage of justice would be dealt with.

I really can't think of one segment of society that wants molesters to go free without punishment as a matter of public policy.

As for the indictment against Bush/Cheney, Vermont is not the first place to do this.  Impeachment votes have gone on in NY, Mass., NC...

Not at all.. the point was that this reaction to Bush is typical in people so far off the grid of reason that they barely blink an eye at horrible things happening around them.  There was no outrage in VT about this.  I would expect a very different reaction in most parts of the country.. even some very left parts around myself.

Funny thing, in the town a live in, a convicted sex offender served his time and moved into a neighborhood in the town.   there was a huge uproar about it.  People were picketing his house for what seems to be 6 months off and on.  And this was in California.

I don't see how the 2 are connected, the people who should be in an uproar are the same who are calling for impeachment?   How do we know that?  Vermont is a state, i think it has at least 500k living in it. 

While there may be mostly liberals living in the state, which I'm not sure there is becuase i really don't know, don't you think if you asked anyone of them if they thought it was ok a sex offender didn't serve time that most of them, like the vast majority would say hell no?

All things being equal and assuming that it's a cut and dry case, i think you'd be hell bent to find anyone who would say that a sex offender shouldn't go unpunished except maybe that judge.

I can see how some cases might be blown out of proportion while other, more important cases go largly unnoticed..
