Bernard Hopkins v Joe Calzaghe
« on: April 03, 2008, 05:43:06 AM »

April 19th in Las Vegas.

Calzaghe is undefeated - I say he'll destroy the "Executioner" who at age 43 is well past his best. Should be a good fight - lets see if the Welshman wins in the US where Hatton failed to do.

My prediction - Calzaghe by TKO by the 8th round.

Calzaghe should win this but don't underestimate Hopkins. He's a lot older now but still crafty as hell.

I have Calzaghe a winning a decision. Hopkins hasn't been knocked down or even been knocked out in quite some time.

I wouldn't worry about bernard getting knocked out or even knocked down at all. Dudes chin is granite.

I can see him getting out worked and this fight going to the cards. Joe Just has to stay away from all bernards sneaky rough house ring tactics he uses to wear guys down.

This fight will be a bore fest.

B-Hop is a smart cookie.  So far He seem ageless.  Calzaghe is a great champion but Hopkins is too much for him.  He's no Peter Manfredo or even Jeff Lacy.  Hopkins still has the goods.  I see him giving Calzaghe a lesson before a 10th. round knock ala Oscar D.

I agree bernard's crafty but after seeing Calzaghe/Kessler my gut feeling is that Joe's just gonna be too busy on BOTH the inside and outside....

the referee's gonna potentially play a huge role in this fight if Bernards gonna stand a chance here too,if the ref lets bernard tie up and makes Joe fight out, hopkins stands a chance of dictating the pace,if the refs like cortez was in Hatton/Mayweather and breaks the two as soon as they come togther it's gonna be joes night

No way the Executioner gets KOed or TKOed.  The thing I worry about for Bernard, is he has 43 year old legs.  Calzaghe is an extremely busy fighter who throws punches in bunches.  I think he will tire Bernard out and win a UD.  Hopkins is crafty inside, in the Winky Wright fight, Wright "magically gets a huge gash after the break.  When Bernard had the time to head butt, elbow or anything else coudln't be seen by the three different angles of cameras.

The crowning of the Euro-fancy boy pitty-pat style.

God damn, when will the Brits produce a fighter who is a FIGHTER?????

I think it had more to do with Hopkins' elusiveness than Calzaghe's style. Joe is a fighter. Hopkins' style can make anyone look bad out there.

Hopkins even managed to dupe a judge into scoring for him, 114-113. The other scores wern't close. Should have a been a unanimous decision for Joe. Boring ass fight, though.

Still, this "Slap-happy" style I cannot take . . . .  it is similar to how my children strike when they are arguing acroiss the table (and they have no KO power either!!)

Calzaghe has power. But I also find the slap boxing style very annoying to watch.

Watching him dismantle Jeff Lacy is all the evidence you need that Calzaghe can thump someone.

I can't stand to watch a "boxer" act like a homo in the ring. That is exactly what Hops did with all that holding and groping.

If the fight was unimpressive or boring, blame Hops the octopus.

I hate Calzaghe. Just because he threw twice as many meaningless punches doesn't mean he shouild have won. Bernard didn't even look phazed by his punches.

Heartless, oh boxing sage?

He may not have a chin, but he most certainly does have heart.

Remember the Lolenga Mock and Carl Tompson fights?

David Haye's a great fighter but I'm not convinced about his abilities for mixing it with the heavyweights - he's gonna need to take some time out to put on some serious size.
