I've been hearing alot of talk lately by people concerning gas prices and different price levels are setting different people off at different times.  So if you're still driving a car now, how high will gas actually have to get before you give up the privilege?  I'm guessing that people who like their cars, or dislike buses, will put up with quite a bit before they actually give in to that, despite alot of people around here's claims of "fuck that my ass will be on a bus when gas gets to x dollars a gallon!"

The city bus is running radio ads nonstop around here.

They must be taking a big hit too, and looking to add some frustrated/broke drivers to their daily routes.

I don't know how it is in the rest of the country but out here the last time I filled up here in LA gas was $4.65/gal and people are coming up to me just making random conversation at the pumps right now about gas being fucked up right now.  There's stories on the local TV news about people "purposely" running out of gas on the interstate to take advantage of the free gallon of gas that the interstate road assistance trucks give you in such an instance but I think that's probably just a source of drama for those so inclined to want something to bitch about right now.  But I'm also hearing about gas being siphoned left and right and farmers being robbed of their diesel reserves out in the fields.  People are saying they're running out of both the locking gas caps and the red gallon gas containers at places like Auto Zone right now.

I use a locking gas-cap, but I also have the 40 caliber defense mechanism in place.

I spent $65 yesterday.  Luckily a tank lasts me about 3 weeks.

Yeah if this keeps up you'll have to move closer to a McDonald's.

ya got that right.  I only go to gym/Mcd/etc when it's on the way to something I HAVE to do.  It I have no other reason to go out that day (since I work from home), I'll often just train shoulders/abs in the garage with the shit barbell set.

I pay $8 a gallon and will continue to.

Me and buses don't mix, can't say for the US never been on a bus there, but here buses are the refuge of local broke cretins and Hawaiian print shirt wearing fat loud tourists and are to be avoided at all costs.

And the worst part of it is, we will probably see even higher prices in the near future.  Oil is supposed to be hitting 170/gallon in the next month or so, if current estimates are on the mark, and that of course will have an adverse effect on gas prices.

I don't believe for one second that the politicians in this country are doing everything they can to put a cap on prices, like they claim they are.  A lot of these guys, the president included, have something to gain financially from the oil market being out of control.

I'm at ~$100/week, and I suppose I'd have to consider alternates if gas doubled again.

As it is, I drive my wife's car which gets 27-30 mpg whenever I think of it.

I drive a Hyundai Elantra and I will not feel the price at the pump until it is over $2.00 per litre ($7.57 per gallon).  I can pretty well drive my car everywhere for next to nothing.  However, I will probably notice the increased cost of food and other items.

I have to agree with all of the above.

It will never happen.  People will cut back on other things before they take the "bus".  They also might buy a more fuel efficient vehicle, they might carpool with friends, but a bus?  Not.

I get about 13 mpg, but I live about 10 minute drive to work.  I live right by a subway that goes straight to my work  building, but I still wouldn't stop driving to work unless the gas prices went up to 3x what they are now.

The government should've jacked the price to where it is now 15 years ago, to discourage the idiotic SUV purchases that are a big part of the problem now. Convervation only becomes important when the masses feel it in terms of prices. Now they're stuck with SUVs. Hard to feel sorry for the many lacking any foresight whatsoever, these higher prices were always in the cards.

$4-$5 adjusted for inflation is not much relative to prices in the 70s, people got used to expecting low prices to last forever. Americans are addicted to driving and prefer big cars, they're only cutting back at the margins right now because the prices really haven't gone up that much in relative terms, yet.

If gas prices are a concern, then I'm not making enough money.

The way of the future boys, you can debate and argue until your blue in the face, the prices will steadily rise.  My advice:Get better jobs and make more money.

If it goes to $10 a gallon that could potentially be $1000 bucks a month on gas if you drive an SUV and use a tank a week.
