IQ tests are very similar to a chess game, you need to visualize sequences in your mind which is exactly what a chess player does.
The thing is that "visualizing sequences" correlates very strongly with intelligence. It is one of the things that correlates the strongest in predicting how a person will do at school and in life. What you call "visualizing sequences in your mind" can also be called logical deduction capacity, and it translates into all areas of thinking, like solving an equation, comprehending how an engine works or making sound financial decisions. Don't diminish the relevance of this by making it look like an idiot savant skill, because solving sequences of numbers and figures is one of the parts of IQ tests that correlate the strongest with real life intellectual capability. And besides, you are wrong that is all IQ tests are composed of. There are also questions of memory, vocabulary and cultural knowledge. Of course, none of these things correlates as strongly with reali life intellectual capabilities as the ability to "visualize sequences in your mind".
You can build a test that will fit a different population and they will score high...thats why these tests are not to be taken too seriously.
This is a fallacy that egalitarians keep spouting even though it has been put to rest a long time ago. No, you cannot build an intelligence test that will make any group score high, or that will eliminate the differences in intelligence between people. In the 1960s and 1970s, the American Psychological Association, under pressure from the media and the politically correct establishment, tried to create IQ tests that would show that blacks were just as intelligent as whites. It was believed that IQ tests were culturally biased, and the only reason why whites did better than blacks was because the tests were biased in favor of the cultural mores of European Caucasians. Well, so several tests were crafted using examples of black popular culture, including questions that involved items that blacks are more familiar, and the questions were even written in ebonic. And guess what? White children still outscored black children! The number of excuses that the egalitarians could use was reduced to zero, and what finally put the nail in the coffin of IQ tests and made them illegal was the fact that East Asians did better at them than whites. Yep, a different people with a completely different culture did better at tests created by whites than whites themselves! Since it is impossible to circumvent this fact, the egalitarian crowd managed to make the courts ban IQ tests under the excuse that they were "racist". If a people that comes from another culture on the other side of the World does better at IQ tests than whites, then obviously it completely eliminates the possibility of the tests being culturally biased in favor of whites, otherwise they would do better on them than East Asians. The egalitarian crowd went crazy over this, because it proves without a shadow of a doubt that IQ tests measure innate intelligence and not how well adepted you are to a specific culture, and also that different races differed in their average intelligence level.
Don't take this as me belittling these master chess players capabilities.
This is what you just did. You reduced their brilliance to an idiot savant skill with no relevance besides playing chess well and doing well on IQ tests. Unfortunately for you, being able to play chess well and to do well on IQ tests also indicates that a person will also be good at understanding a physical concept, solving a differential equation, compreheding medical science, understanding the principles behind how the space shuttle works and how to run a business effectively. Playing chess well and getting high scores at IQ tests means that you will do well at any intellectual field(s) you choose.
