Interestingly, if you watch news anchors do newscasts nearly anywhere in the USA, they all use the same, nondescript accent....kind of New-England-like.

For instance, if you go to the deep south, where southern accents abound, the anchors do not have southern accents. They sound as though they were from CT or CA.
