my reply was aimed at those who would actually try to make that argument.

And that guy would be a clueless asshole.

Or European.

one million Americans have died in firearm-related homicides, suicides, and unintentional shootings since 1962. :o

i bet they all disagree with the fools on here.

from: "Fatal Firearm Injuries in the United States: 1962-1994," Violence Surveillance Summary Series, No. 3 (Atlanta: National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, 1997) and "Deaths: Final Data for 1995;" "Deaths: Final Data for 1996;" "Deaths: Final Data for 1997," National Vital Statistics Reports 47, no. 19 (1999).

According to the National Self Defense Survey conducted by Florida State University criminologists in 1994, the rate of Defensive Gun Uses can be projected nationwide to approximately 2.5 million per year -- one Defensive Gun Use every 13 seconds.

In 91.7% of these incidents the defensive use of a gun did not wound or kill the criminal attacker (and the gun defense wouldn't be called "newsworthy" by newspaper or TV news editors).

body88, I spent 41 of my 44 years in Boston.  I know exactly what Boston (New England) weather is like and the summers are getting shorter and shorter while the winter (cold months) are getting longer.  Boston still has occasional snow in March and April (I remember specifically getting 3 feet of snow on my daughters birthday in April).  When I said fall lasts a week I was referring to the change in leaves colors.  You blink, you miss it and don't tell me differently as I stated...I lived there.  The 90 degree weather you are referring to comes as a heat wave and lasts maybe a week.  Air is so thick you could cut it with a knife.  The cold comes in mid September and by Halloween you have to bundle the kids in parkas so they don't freeze while trick or treating.  I don't hate Boston (New England) and its nice to see changing seasons, but I'm done living 75% of my life in temperatures under 60 degrees.

As far as the pay, that would depend on what you are doing.  I make far more per year than I did up there...which I thought was weird too, but like I said...it depends on your job.  Even my sister who is a medical assistant and phlebotomist would make 2x more money here than in there.

You stated Florida is "backwoods" but the majority of people I have met down here...are from the North East...Boston, New York, New Jersey, etc.   ;)

As far as the cleanliness.  LMAO  I started to say maybe Boston's focal point of places such as Government Center, Haymarket Square, etc would be kept clean...but then took it back because to me...they have always had trash and whatnot spew around.  Back Bay is nice at times, but has it's moments as well.  Let's talk about the neighboring towns such as Somerville, Chelsea, Charlestown, Roxbury, Mattapan, Lawrence, Dorchester, Revere, Lynn, Malden, Everett, ... cripes I could go on.   Granted I don't live near near Florida's capital (Tallahassee) but the only place I have been told is a place you don't drive through due to "safety" considered "ghetto" is Belle Glades (and I'm sure some parts of Miami).   Historically, yes it has  beautiful architectural buildings...Florida's tropical buildings are beautiful as well.  The pink, salmon, beige, cream colored stucco and clay roofs look amazing from the sky.  Everything looks alive when flying into PBIA...while I cannot say the same about flying into Logan.  Even the water looks different.

Everyone's opinion is obviously different.  But having actually lived in both places, my opinion is that Florida is (for me) the best place to live.

This post is hilarious.....not even worth arguing with you. Back bay is ok 'sometimes", come on . The cities you listed are not even in Boston, so not sure what they have to do with Boston, like I said the run down areas are located outside the city. The winters are getting longer? Most of the people from Florida are from the northeast, and there is not a huge white trash population? Florida cities rival Boston architecture and history? You can make more money in one of the worst local economies in America? It's under sixty 70 percent of the time here? I don;t know your post is pretty extreme, and not very accurate.

What part of Boston did you live in? Btw, I have spent more time in major Florida cities than you have apparently. I know a thing or two about the state. I admit based on climate/tropical beaches Florida has Boston beat, but I'm not you can compare things like History, schools, hospitals, technology and carrer oppurtunies (post grad).

Just my .2 it's all subjective anyway.

I think so as well. I've been a resident there for fifteen years. NYC is where I live. But Fl. is my home. Moved to WPB in 93. It was way before City Place. The only bar was Respectables. The Brass Ring is no doubt the best burger and beer joint on planet earth! Besides schwoogieville Riviera Beach. West Palm is killer! Lake Worth inlet man. One of the best surfing spots on the east coast.

Nice, we are talking about Boston....

You said it babe!

Bay, was Boston to straight for you. Honest question, because most of the cities you listed have a large gay population? Oh, and heres a pretty picture of a MA beach for no reason to make my point. Still not sure you can rank Frisco so high if cleanliness and climate are major factors, oh well.

I see, good thing I was referring to a poster who agreed with a quote by bay - directed at my original post about Boston. The poster in question thought we where talking about NYC. For the record I wouldent argue Florida is about the best place to live based on climate, but IMO more factors come into play when claiming the best place to live in the USA.

Hope this helps.

Theres more to a city than the weather. Im from Chicago and I feel that cities with winters have more "character". I'd take a city like Chicago,Boston, New york with real people and real neighborhoods over warm weather retirement community. Florida is nice, thats why people vacation there, but I wouldn't want to live there year round.

Living in Florida is a tacit admission that you've given up.

If I could work it out. I'd live in NYC 9 months. LA 2 months and Saratoga 1 month.

Currently, I live in NYC 11 months. Saratoga 1 month.

I'll chime in here...........I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri.  It's a great place to raise a family.  The winters are bone chiling cold and the summers are unbearingly humid and hot.  However, Spring and Fall are very enjoyable and I miss those two midwest seasons.  I spent 7 years in Colorado.  Denver is probably one of the most underrated cities.  I fucking LOVED IT!  The weather is a lot like California save for winter time.  I love nature and getting away from it all at times and there is nothing like getting lost in the Rocky Mountains.  I've gotta say in the Midwest if you go for a drive outside St. Louis you'll see some major white trash towns.  Not so in the West or atleast in Colorado.  There is just not that backcountry trailer trash you see in the midwest.  You drive down the highway in Colorado and it's beautiful scenery.  You do the same in Missouri and it's fucking billboard after billboard and every other exit has a XXX video/porn shop nowadays.  Denver is such a fun city and the single life is pretty good.  It's still fairly affordable to live compared to say LA or Manhattan or other major metropolitan areas.  Also Denver suburbs are a great place to raise a family.  There is virtually no ghetto in Denver except for maybe parts of Aurora and a few other places.  Nothing like St. Louis where you can wander one block over and be in the worst ghetto in the world.

I reside in Orange County right now.  I don't know what to think.  Everyone is beautiful and wealthy here.  It's a great place to raise a family I guess.  I keep bringing up family because that's the point I'm at in my life.  I LOVE NYC only if I was single.  I couldn't imagine how fucking fun it would be to live in NYC and be a young dumb full of cum 20-25 year old sharing a studio apartment with 3 other dudes or possibly a couple HOT CHICKS? LOL.  I've been to FL and I would NEVER live there.  There are a shit load of trashy people in most of the major cities.  Miami is way too diverse for me.  Northwest i.e. Oregon and Washington is some of the most beautiful country I've ever seen in my life.  I don't think I'll ever move back to the midwest.  There is just a different culture and outlook on life out here in the West.  Something free and fresh.

I don't know how anyone could live in LA or San Francisco.  As I get older and pretty much sick of people in general I find places like Idaho and Montana much more attractive.  I think most of these discussions are biased because people are looking at things from different perspectives.  Like I said if I was single there are a ton of places I'd live but being married would never EVER think of living there.  I do know that from the few areas I've lived in so far in my life EVERYPLACE gets old no matter how beautiful and nice it is in the beginning.  It's like a new car.  The feeling ebbs and flows but for the most part the novelty wears off after a couple of years.  Friends and family can make any place worthwhile.  Things that are both absent in my life right now except for my gf.  I'd live in North Dakota if my family and a great group of friends lived there.

I will say I've never been to Europe but will go and can't wait.  I think Europeans are a nice change of pace compared to Americans.  Europeans from my experience (having an immigrant father from western Europe) are much more sophisticated and informed than your average American.  I can have some of the best political discussions and just general what's life all about discussions with my English/European/foreign friends than I can with my American counterparts.  Just my experience though.  To  say Europeans are any less arrogant than Americans is laughable though as well.

It's a beautiful state and Louisville has a lot to offer.  But lots of redneck hoosiers as well.
