I've done HIT religiously in the past, same thing with volume.  What works best is going to be that which fits your mindset and goals on the given day.  Some days I can't go through the HIT intensity.  Some days I crave it.

To some extent I agree with this.  However, it is important to stick to one regime for a while at least, in order to give your body time to adapt to it (and grow).  I think if you're mixing the two too much, you will not get the benefit of either style.
